This debate is really outside my knowledge base, but I would like to offer this one addition: the Ashkenazi are not the Jews of the Bible. They are descendants of the Khazars, a Turkic people who maintained the Khazarian Empire circa 700-1000 AD. They adopted Judaism as the state religion in about 800. Arthur Koestler wrote a book about it called The 13th Tribe. This is why they don’t look like the Sephardic Jews, who I would speculate are the true descendants of the ancient Jews. They look Caucasian because they are, in fact, Caucasian. They aren’t a Semitic race, and their ancestors never lived in Palestine.

I don’t say that as an attack on them, though I have many disagreements with the way they pursue their interests.

Ashkenazi Jews are European Jews who intermarried primarily with Eastern European types.....and yes some of them with Ottoman Turks who very much liked the Jews for upper level bureaucrats.

Ben Gurion for example was educated in Constantinople. Up until Erdogan, the Turks and Israel got along quite well.
