Posted byMessageSCLibertarianDoes anyone else feel dumb for falling for the "War on Terror" propaganda in the 2000s? by SCLibertarianThe War on Terror works because Americans are a fundamentally moronic people. If we had a shred of intelligence about world politics and world history, we might actually be more successful at holding our politicians to account. Instead, we believe the "hate us for our freedom" bs and the nonsense about us needing to be the world's police. At this point, we deserve everything that's coming to us.

I concur

I was against “Boots on the ground”. What I wanted was to from the air destroy every building, bridge, road, house that anyone important lived in, water treatment plant, sewage facility, electricity station, police station, fire station, university, etc……

And NOT pay one penny to rebuild anything.

Just completely destroy the entire nation and leave.

But I was an idiot about the Patriot Act. I voted for people who supported it.

Honestly it has made me more cynical of ANY government rah-rah bullshite. All that shite was built on a lie and it just cements to me that everything built today is also on a lie as well.

Agreed. We should only go in when it’s crucial. We should do horrific damage and get out quickly.

The patriot act was one of the most vile and corrupt deals with the devil both sides equally supported.

Yeah I remember that back then. Big Army pushed that Iraqi democracy angle often.

I was like 12 years old when we declared war on Iraq, but remember thinking we would legitimately liberate and give freedom to the people and Iraq and Afghanistan, and also remember being told if we didn't fight these wars that Sadaam would use his secret WMDs on America (the same Iraqi military that was toppled in an afternoon)

Colin Powell making the case to the United Nations to invade Iraq because of the threat of WMDs is one of the most historically embarrassing moments in the history of the United States.

I think many of us got caught up in the emotion (myself included) and wanting retribution for the murder of our innocent citizens. At the time I didn't fully understand the history of Afghanistan. It is a place that puts very little value on human life and is where empires go to die. You either have to completely level it, or leave it alone. There is no "winning" in Afghanistan unless you have a bottomless pit of cash and an unending supply of people whose lives you don't value to do the fighting. Even then, you never really win. You just maintain the status quo until the bodies and money run out.
I think you’re confusing Afghanistan with Iraq. The War on Terror was more focused on the Iraq campaign.

Think: Axis of Evil. Iraq, Iran, North Korea

We only went after Iraq because the Iranians and North Koreans would have been very challenging wars. Iraq was the low hanging fruit…and they had oil.

I never fell for it, always felt Bush just wanted to finish what daddy started. Saddam had his issues, but truth be told, he was the only one capable of holding Iraq together, however brutal that may have been. Once again, something that has happen to America again & again, we get involved, but never see the final results which is a country worse that what it was before our involvement! The U.S. could have worked a deal with Saddam to tone it down, keep the balance of power with Iran, but no, Bush was determined to get us involved. What a waste, but then several people of note and corporations, made a ton of money from our involvement.

I didn’t fall for it. I was vehemently anti those wars and especially called BS from the jump on invading Iraq. Had slimy neocon war profiteers’ stink all over it from the jump. Dick Cheney is probably the most evil MFer to hold as much political power as he has in the history of this country. I hope that MFer and his daughter die nice and slow and painfully from natural causes. The Deep State/MIC and Biden administration took that playbook and ran with it. How people don’t see it’s the same shite (Bush/Cheney 2.0), the same playbook, with the same MFers involved, is bananas to me, except substitute Biden for W. as the brainless puppet President they installed.

I do. I trusted our government and won’t do it again. We should have only gone into Afghanistan and sent enough troops into Tora Bora to capture Bin Laden. The whole thing would have been over in months.

Instead, we decide to go into Iraq to restore the Bush family pride.

I disagree. I'm not buying the BS that Arabs took over a plane with box cutters, flew them into the WTC and we recovered their passports from the aftermath. Oil and heroine is why we invaded the ME.

Forever War. That is the USA! There has been no peace.
WWII
Korea
Cold War
Vietnam
Cold War
Iraq
Bosnia crap
Africa crap
Afghan
Iraq again
Ukraine

It is constant. This is how our country operates and it won’t ever stop.

It is extremely disconcerting when you finally realize the country you live is run by evil.

When the Arabs run around calling the US the great satan, are they wrong? Don’t answer with emotion, think about it.
