I think that's right - tariffs raise prices, and some combination of producers and consumers have to pay those and Trump is jawboning to rebalance this instead of tweaking policy. You can think of it as "price control by tweet" - with “I love you guys… now lower your prices”, a performative public pressure campaign to get them to eat costs. He's done this in other industries as well.

MAGA often needs mansplaining to correct their leftist ways. Whats your opinion here chief? Probably "Whatever Trump says."
30+ years of global warming propaganda and the government being controlled by Democrat Socialists for 12/16 years with the massive farming regulations that have been intentional and malicious is THE reason for beef prices in 2025. Beef has been put of control for years now, not just 2025, and it sure isn’t because of fricking tariffs.

That js just flat out wrong. Collusion by the packers, drought, and input cost inflation is what has lead to the smallest herd size in decades. We import lean beef to blend for ground meat and it makes up a small overall percentage of the total beef Americans eat.

He just said that tariffs make prices higher

It will never be a good move, or should we ever have to import any kind of food into this country! At the very least it is a matter of national security! Unfortunately we continue to do it with other commodities as well!

Muh tariffs makes me expert on global beef production, domestic ranching, and hoof-and-mouth disease…

Problem is a bit different here. He says “lower your prices” like the majority of ranchers can. They accept the sale barn price as it is a commodity.
Besides, ranchers have been “eating costs” for the last 15 years. Land costs are astronomical. The risks involved in ranching is outrageous for an roi of 1-2%? Which is a very low but typical return.
Land costs have decoupled from real roi values a long time ago. Unlike your grandfather, it’s very hard to make your land payment on livestock alone, and sometimes dang near impossible.

You have no clue what you’re talking about. When was the last time you talked to a rancher?
I’m in South Dakota and talked with a handful of ranchers last night. All of the hardcore MAGA, all of them absolutely furious over Trump’s tweet.

This is what happens when you let an academic run things.

That would be disastrous policy. North America has seasons yet we have fresh fruits and vegetables in stores year round. Is it magic? No, it’s importation.
The beef issue is about one set of Washington made problems. Don’t join Trump in his fantasy world or you will create even bigger problems.

Which Washington made issues.
State them.
State them.

I honestly think he's in Joe Biden dementia territory. His comments are something you expect from a middle schooler.

You are right to a certain extent
We can meet our needs with most foods
But things like coffee, bananas, coconut, chocolate, etc, we can't grow here so have to import these and a few others

I just want one MAGA cultist to tell me how Farmers can just unilaterally lower their prices like Donny is asking them to.
I also want them to tell me why he cares more about the consumer here, but when his BigCorp friends are involved, he tariffs the frick out of the public.
Its a first graders view of economics. None will answer.

Sounds like the same globalist policies he ran against. Importing cheap foreign products to undercut domestic prices.

Don't be obtuse. This is a very shrewed and ingenious move on the global political stage.
quote:Nope. Millei actually cut spending and reduced government economic manipulation.Trump will outspend Biden, got the government into the equity business, wants to start state-owned pharmacies, wants price-controls, and wants to manipulate domestic producers with cheap imports.
The leader is cut from the same mold as DJT.
The only thing they have in common is they are both hated by the Left.
