Yep. Estimated cost ~$50B.
Had it not been for a postage stamp issued in 1900 showing a smoking volcano in Lake Nicaragua, the US may well have chosen Nicaragua as the route.
They rescinded their invitation to China last year (probably because China runs the Panama Canal now), and are openly courting other countries to help them get it done.

Can only enhance the value of access to the Gulf of America.
It will cut down on confusion, too.
You can take the Mexican Canal from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of America (or vice versa) for the budget experience.
Or, you can go to Panama and use The Donald J. Trump, Senior, Canal for the luxury experience. Your choice, common carriers.

It would be a shortcut to going around Yucatan, would make Houston/New Orleans/Mobile all more attractive.
Of course, cutting the loop around Yucatan is not much vs. crossing the ocean.

Motherfrickers can’t even get the same amount of Corona in each bottle and you’re telling me they’re building a fricking canal?

Sounds like every county work crew in the US

For sure, but the skeptic in me says China would have not allowed this deal to fail if they weren't basically controlling the Panama Canal already.

Well , we're sending them back plenty of laborers.

Ignoring all the obvious red flags with Mexico, this is awesome.

a new mrb cost about 1.2 billion to cross less than a mile wide river...they can build 300 km canal for 7.5 billion...i don't believe that

You clearly didn't watch the video. It is a rail line with a deep water port on each end not a canal.

This is not new. They have been working on it for a while. Howevever they have issues with designing lock systems because even with it being less mountainous than the rest of Mexico still has elevation issues to overcome. It's going to rely heavily on the rail aspect.

Probably paid for by the Chinese

They're building a train line. Well refurbishing one that was used a little back in the day.

I can't take him serious using the term lowkey

The YouTube link is posted in comments on the Twitter feed, but I wanted to post it here. Pretty interesting video and lots of information on “near shoring” that was interesting.
Thanks for the link.
But makes me think most companies would just ship to Los Angeles and train it from there before they would use the Mexican corridor.

From my understanding its not an actual canal at all. Its a Train that carries cargo back and forth
Correct.
