DeSantis has a record on trade and it's bad. He voted for FTA for TPP.

FTA means Fast Track Authority (FTA) for the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP). Giving the executive branch, Obama, Fast Track Authority is/was tantamount to approving a treaty before it was signed.

The Trans Pacific Partnership was potentially a major trade giveaway to Asian counties and an abrogation of U.S. sovereignty over corporate environmental regulations. That is, TPP partners were slated to make and enforce environmental regulations on U.S. companies by foreign nations...not the U.S. congress.

TPP was so bad for U.S. workers that in order to get U.S. senate Democrats on board and vote for it they were given TAA, Trade Adjustment Assistance to offset some of the harm done by TPP to U.S. workers.

Obama was eventually not given FTA on TPP because the House at the time voted for TPP and against TAA. FTA for TPP was not going to move forward in the Senate without TAA. So the bill stalled and the 2016 election was looming.

DeSantis voted with the communist greenies and the GOPe on these measures to fast track TPP.

DeSantis is great on local and state issues but he is a major concern on trade, borders and war.

Thank God there was major disagreement between Senate Dems and House Republicans on TAA to stall the FTA on TPP long enough for Trump to win in 2016 and kill TPP.

Is it possible he has a different view of those trade policies now? Someone should ask him point blank about his past support of those trade policies.

Just pointing out DeSantis voting record on trade.

Governors can only give lip service on the issues of trade, borders and war because those issues are federal policy issues.

His vote on the affirmative to give Obama Fast Track Authority on TPP shows that he was okay with approving TPP which as I said in the OP was a trade giveaway to Asian nations especially China because they would not have lived by TPP rules (thus more companies moving there to avoid environmental regs) and an abrogation of U.S. sovereignty on environmental regulations.

Yes.

I also get the impression he was trying to court favor with Paul Ryan.

I've been saying that too but my confidence in him not running is waning due to all the chatter.

The entire objective to keep DeSantis MAGA.

The GOPe is trying to capture him. This vote on FTA for TPP is evidence that he is susceptible to GOPe capture.

DeSantis is actually a conservative, he's a competent leader, and he can beat Biden.

Trump's followers can't stand it.

Oh, I'll vote for him. I'll also campaign and donate to him.

But don't be surprised with pure GOP rhetoric in one hand (that only impacts your life with clicks and entertainment) and behind closed doors quietly doing establishment things to enrich themselves through trade, borders and war.

TPP & NAFTA were 2 of Trumps biggest platforms. He reversed NAFTA into the USMCA deal to level the playing field.

Then, he was going full force to reverse the TPP deal & China was kicking & screaming and then BOOM, the Wuhan Flu was released.

I don’t trust DeSantis in DC.
I think he could very well be controlled opposition. They will allow him to run rampant with the red meat in Florida, but IN DC, they will control him.

The good news is DeSantis won't run for 2024 so you won't be disappointed by him losing to Trump like you were when Kasich lost to Trump in the 2016 primaries.
