A republican needs to attach a Term Limit Amendment to it and see just how much the Dems want those tax returns.

what's unfair about a law that requires presidents and opposing party nominees to release their taxes?

Because it's none of our business. That's between the tax payer and the IRS.

Doc, can you tell me who was the last President that was a Billionaire business man instead of already being a politician?

A billionaire businessman doing international business is the most likely candidate to have conflicts of interest and should be the last exempted from scrutiny. The founders put in the emoluments clause lest we elect presidents beholden to foreign states. Trump, for example, declared his love for the Saudis during the campaign because they buy so much real estate from him.

Tom Steyer is about to get in the race as a mega-rich (on an impeach Trump platform, btw) businessman. You'd be ok with him not disclosing his taxes?

Only choads like you gaf about a man's tax returns.
Only dumba$$es, like you, think a candidate's tax returns are not relevant. They are required to make financial disclosures. Why shouldn't their tax returns be part of that disclosure?

So what is the IRS for then? Surely you don't think each and every politician is squeaky by the book clean when it comes to taxes, correct? With as much power as members in each branch of Government wield, if you are going to ask the POTUS to make his public, then each and every member of the other branches should as well. What happened to "transparency"?

This bill is unconstitutional because it's not a requirement as listed in article two, section one of the constitution.

If they want this, they have to amend the constitution, not enact mere statuary legislation.

I agree with you. There should be more oversight because corruption is fairly common and in general more transparency decreases corruption. It would probably be a good idea to have Congress require this of MOC's and senators as well.

Exactly. The IRS is obviously ok with the filings. They have auditors. They have collections. They have Criminal Investigations. They have means to research foreign transactions. They have a DOJ to prosecute any crime.

So is the IRS incompetent? Why is asking the IRS if the returns are ok or not ok? If they are ok... why does congress need them?

You already know why.

Because the IRS won't give them to the MSM to interpret.

The IRS has already seen it.

If it’s wrong. Audit it.
If it’s not paid. Collect it
If it’s not legal. Prosecute it.
If it’s for politial theatre. GFY

Sources of income are not shown on Form 1040, the main tax return form.

For all sources of income to be available, you have to include all schedules.

Nope, not at all.

I have never understood why Rs don't have more fun w/ D proposals...like impose a 80% surtax on every actor's earnings, or an 80% tax on all mass tort cases or lawyer's contingency fee winnings...

And not just incomes but debts. Debt is leverage. For example, in 2014 Eric Trump told a golf reporter that the Trump organization get "all the financing we need from Russia" when the American credit markets got tight.

Tax returns could've helped us dodge a serious orange bullet here.
