In some cases sunlight will be decisive and in others it won't. It's a law not a panacea. Voters and the media have to do better as well.

How many people in the general population, who aren't CPA's, would be able to understand that kind of tax return?

A good point. On technical matters experts on important (see media serving the public better).

whether they took advantage of tax loopholes

I would actually think they were stupid if they didn't.

So, you think the barista at starbucks, the family on welfare and the elementary arts teacher will be able to decipher Donald J. Trump's tax return?

Also, let's not pretend this isn't all because Trump won.

No, you give it to the public, dude. It's a requirement for public release of financial information

Well it’s obviously not. That congressional fund used to pay of sexual assault victims appears to not be very important in this era of #metoo.

And if the president’s is so important.... why isn’t the Speaker of the House’s returns not important? How do we know she isn’t being influenced to oppose trump since he is altering trade deals? She is rich. Did her family acquire all of that with zero foreign ties?

Goose-Gander. Include Congress and the SC justices and all taxpayer provided perks and funds or no deal. It sounds like you would be in full agreement to demand this be included by your concerns and assertions

And furthermore... the SC report will be public.. right?

BTW, what's unfair about a law that requires presidents and opposing party nominees to release their taxes?

It's none of our damn business.

How about we require presidents to release their birth certificates? Why did it take Obama so long to doctor one up.

I would throw in Secretaries of State and presidential candidates who operate global foundations with massive funding from terrorist countries as well.
