I’m not sure how you’re quantifying this, but there are two perspectives to consider. I would rather the GOP nominate Trump than Desantis, because I think Trump has illustrated himself to be a severely flawed leader and can be beaten more easily than Desantis. From the question of who would I rather have as a leader of the country if I had to pick between the two, Desantis. I don’t agree with him politically, but he at least exhibits real leadership qualities.

Because they believe they can control him.
One of the problems with being president is you have to put a whole lot of people in governmental positions. And if you don’t have peope that understand those roles you take what the establishment provides. And those people will frick your eyeballs out if the people who put them there direct them to.
Most DC types seem to take the MSM as work direction.

They want Desantis to run because they know Trump wouldn't be able to handle losing the primary to him and would run independent. Trump and Desantis splitting the conservative votes would hand the democrats the nomination.

The main reason they want Desantis or anyone else is became they're not Trump. A lot of people who voted against Trump can't cogently explain why they dislike Trump other than mean tweets and threat to democracy, all of which was downloaded into their gourds by the Gaslight Media.
