President Trump visited the Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington on Tuesday, June 2, prompting criticism from Catholics who demonstrated near the Catholic University of America, which is adjacent to the shrine, with some praying the rosary while holding signs reading, “Our Church is Not a Photo Op” and “Black Lives Matter.” Mr. Trump and his wife, Melania, who is Catholic, stood for several minutes in front of a large statue of Saint John Paul II before entering the building.

Archbishop Wilton Gregory, who has led the Archdiocese of Washington for just over a year, condemned the visit in a statement released on Tuesday morning before Mr. Trump’s visit.

“I find it baffling and reprehensible that any Catholic facility would allow itself to be so egregiously misused and manipulated in a fashion that violates our religious principles, which call us to defend the rights of all people even those with whom we might disagree,” the nation’s highest-ranking African-American bishop said.

So him standing in front of it and clearing out the people that literally set fire to the place is worse than the people who set it on fricking fire? HONK HONK

The church that burned was Episcopalian, not Catholic

Funny how you would never hear a Baptist minister or non denominational pastor make such a stink. Or maybe it’s bc their true calling is to humbly serve God, and trust that he will sort it out instead of grandstanding and making such noise themselves.

I'm sure the good Bishop knows a thing or two about being reprehensible.

I left the Catholic Church years ago with the hope of one day returning and living a Catholic life. The more time that goes by, the less likely that prospect becomes for me. The church is almost unrecognizable from the one I remember as a child and teen.

It's unfortunate, but the Catholic world is heavily divided between old-school True Christians, and the new-age profligates/liberals. What better way to destroy Christians than to infiltrate their institutions (Southern Baptist Convention/Anglicans/Episcopalians/Presbyterians/Lutherans)

Too bad he doesn't find it baffling and reprehensible when priests abuse children and nuns. Hopefully, this shrine he is pissy about is on antifa's list. Maybe they need reminded how close John Paul and Reagan were.

I'm sure the irony of his statement was lost on the archbishop.

The Catholic Church in America was infiltrated by hard core leftists. There are books about it.
