If youve ever had a family member who has been involved in crime you'd know that this is an easy answer. I had an relative that was involved in drugs and robberies stole from his own parents and siblings. Guess who turned him in.

Why would you want to go to jail for a mentally ill grown man?

I'm calling the FBI as possible

No doubt.

Then I’d spend the rest of my life second guessing the parenting choices that led to him being a murderer.

I don't know that I could have that strength. This is not so different from the "if you were German in the 1940s would you have resisted" type question. Everyone wants to believe they would do the moral and courageous thing, but until you are in the fire you don't really know. So I wont pretend that I do.

What I do know is that for the past 3 days ive hugged my son more than I ever have.

Thinking about this scenario is enough for me to shut down for the day. My kids are both on the spectrum..the oldest and low functioning non-verbal that would not hurt a fly, so I don't have to worry about him.

My younger (16), is higher functioning, but due to early bullying he has some major anxiety and not fully aware of how the real world works. We teach him consequences. Even had to take him to an inpatient unit for a few weeks for his medications to be fully adjusted. Those few weeks were awful for me.

If he did something like this I would feel as anyone else would, but there's a small part of me that would still want to protect him. I wouldn't be able to hold out and try to hide him though. I'd turn him in or make him turn himself in, but I would be only half human after that.

Better anxiety than rage, nice bottled up rage.

Yes. Sometimes love means making sure they are responsible for their actions.

Because you are effectively handing your son over to be executed. Don’t get me wrong, the father did the right thing. But it would be a hard thing to do.

Consider the fact that he left a young mother and her two very young children without a husband and father. Those same two young children watched as their father was gunned down and allegedly wanted to run to him when the shots rang out.

Granted, I know it's very easy to say this when you're not the one involved, but I think I'd have a hard time not doing the same.

You have to.

The question needs to be what happened to this kid?

If you know what's right, the decision will make itself.
