It makes no sense to put off work recruitments for Medicaid until 2029. It is stupid get allow the green tax credits. Huge SALT deductions are BS. Republicans said they were going to balance the budget. Trump ran on it. So actually do it.
It is unlikely the republicans keep the house anyway. They haven’t passed any of Trump’s EO’s into law, used recission to make DOGE cuts permanent etc. these republicans that voted no are just trying to get done what Trump ran on.

Reducing spending has to start somewhere. This was a start. But losers like Chip Roy just got us a continuing resolution where double the money will be wasted.

It does have to start somewhere and that time is yesterday. The bill put forth does nothing to prevent further deficits. Nothing. Yes, it does reduce spending but at such a trickle it truly has zero impact or meaning.

While I agree with reductions have to start somewhere, I would amend it to read meaningful reductions.

So is it fair to say the big, beautiful bill didn’t even make it out of committee?

It’s a horrible spending bill and it’ll get worse when it gets to the senate for reconciliation.

What’s horrible about it? Can you give us some reasons why this bill is so terrible and awful?

Why is this AI law shoehorned into a fricking budget bill?

The bill before the House Energy and Commerce Committee under the budget reconciliation process would prevent states from enforcing “any law or regulation” for AI models. It may run afoul of Senate rules.

I agree.

But even that is having extreme difficulty getting passed.

So what do you suggest? Pass this bill? Pass no bill? Shut down the government? You know how that always works out…eventually something will get passed, Republicans will cave, and Republicans will get the blame for shutting down the government.

The 2019 Trump budget was $4.4T with a deficit of ~$1T.

The 2024 Biden budget was $6.7T with a deficit of $1.83T. That’s a functional increase of $2.3T from Trump (53%).

This proposal would reduce spend from the Biden number by between $150-300B getting us to a projected budget of $6.4T optimistically and would still leave us a shortfall of close to $1.5T until Trumps economic programs can hopefully begin to grow revenues starting next year because right now economically we are either in or are close to a recession so we’re flat growth wise.

So because they decided to start with Biden’s budget then work backwards instead acknowledging that outside of interest on Covid boondoggles most of what Biden added was absolute garbage we are still way outspending our revenues at a time when our enemies are about to meet in Rio to begin pivoting away from the USD as reserve currency.

Then you look at what wasn’t cut:
-DOGE waste
-USAID
-Biden green initiatives

You can’t even pretend to be a fiscal conservative and support this level of spending because what we saw was that the GOP when the chips are down loves their pork as much as the left as long as it’s benefiting their donors.

So again, this is a garbage bill and I’d rather see literally anything but us continue to waste money on garbage initiatives that don’t even improve our infrastructure while accelerating our race towards a debt service wall within the next 5-10 years that will mean possible fiscal collapse.

Just responded, it isn’t a 10 second answer when you’re trying to deal with something as complicated as the federal budget.

Some of us have things other than this board to deal with on a friday.
