There is a non painful solution to this. China-backed Regime change with the Islamists losing power. China does not tolerate Islam in any form within their borders but they will gladly buy oil from non hegemonic Persians. Win for both Nations but a loss for the Shias. Good riddance.

Sunni Muslims are like the Chinese in that both are economically hegemonic and will exploit the freedoms and/or needs and weaknesses of prey Nations in a long game strategy. That said, and with the Eschatological prophetic narrative being that the merciful Jesus (as “the Truth”) will indeed “come with a sword”, and given Islam’s historical record of conquest via the sword, it seems that Islam may well be “the sword” that ushers in a Vision of Truth. I.e., a Second Coming of “The Truth” of the which Jesus claims to be. Jesus will not appear in bodily form again, IMO. But in Spirit. Scripture backs that up.
