Yes, I agree. But in that case, the player is not playing within the overall philosophy. THAT is when the measuring stick should come out.
When the QB is clearly giving up, it is not the time to nitpick.

Been going to LSU games since the early 80's. The current Tiger Stadium experience is laughable. You'd basically have to pay me to go to a game these days.

If player safety is the #1 concern, as they like to repeat constantly, then why on earth would they nitpick a QB that is clearly trying to get a first down and then give up to avoid getting hit? It is about as dumb as their ever evolving targeting rule (although the ejection penalty is absolutely ludicrous for the first offense),
This isn't about what Sam should have done and been aware of, that is done. It is about the double standard of getting out the measuring stick when the player is obviously trying to play according to their overall philosophy (I can't say play by their rule because technically that didn't happen).
I'd like to sit in on one of these meetings and watch their highly paid buffoons try to rationalize these rules that are clearly retarded.
