Americans want their crap and if you deny us our crap, we'll get really emotional over it. China's not Ukraine, they actually have a hand to play and it's a pretty frickin' solid hand at that.

We'll see how it sorts out.

Chynuh's economy crumbles if we stop importing all of their cheap crap. Yeah, we may have to wait longer for our crap from Amazon, but at this point, eff Chynuh and all of these countries using and abusing us.

The problem with China is they keep their overpopulated country poor. Can't buy much with 2 cents an hour pay

There is nothing China produces that I couldn't do with out. Tariff the frick out of countries that have taken advantage of the U.S. forever. Bring manufacturing back to our shores, employ Americans, wipe out trade deficits, etc., etc.

Funny how using their own policies against them is an act of war.

100% accurate.

If tariffs are an act of war they declared war against us decades ago.

The U.S., not anyone else, is responsible for the #FentanylCrisis inside the U.S. In the spirit of humanity and goodwill towards the American people, we have taken robust steps to assist the U.S. in dealing with the issue. Instead of recognizing our efforts, the U.S. has sought to smear and shift blame to China

In fairness, there's some legitimacy to this part of the argument.

Better maintenance and control of our own international borders and supply chain conduits, is something that is well within our national control and would help greatly to negate the fentanyl crisis. And we just came off a Presidential term with a fraudulently installed figurehead who basically threw the southern border wide open. I can't blame China for taking full advantage of that.

This is the correct answer, with one modification.

We don't just buy crap from China. We buy agricultural products, computers, lithium-ion batteries, smartphones, nuclear reactors, boilers and other expensive large machinery, lots and lots and lots of stuff made from plastic (which can be anything from a cheap child's toy to a high-end piece of biomedical equipment—we import A LOT of medical equipment from China), video game consoles (although I don't consider that loss a negative—I think having fewer of those would probably raise the collective IQ of the country by 5 points).

So...you're damn right they have a strong hand to play.

The attitude that, "They need us more than we need them," might still be true, even given the above, but that doesn't mean they will cave.

China is a dictatorship.

That means the leaders there are under a whole lot less pressure when things get bad for their citizenry than, say, France or Canada.

And I keep trying to remind people here that they know the tariffs are temporary. They'll only probably last as long as Trump is in office.

Add all that up and China could definitely make us feel some pain depending upon how strong their resolve is.

Like you say, we'll see.

While what you said in your post is mostly true, I can blame China for shipping fentanyl to the Mexican Cartels. They know it is not being used for legitimate purposes.

I concur. That's why I said there's some legitimacy to their argument.

I can assure you though, I am no Xi-sympathizer by any means, and I would never accuse China of having any intent that wasn't 100% nefarious. Just like Russia, I know exactly who they are and what they want.

I'll bet that's not true.

If you go to the doctor for just about anything, chances are they used some product imported from China to treat you, even if it was just a pair of latex gloves.

Surgical instruments, medical tubing, respirators, C-Pap equipment, syringes, needles, medical masks, just about anything medical made with plastic—anything from oxygen masks to plastic tubing to surgical mesh to DMEs to anything you can think of—comes from China.

You may be healthy as a horse and not need any of that stuff currently, but one car accident or unexpected heart attack and your statement might literally be false.

Don't forget the rare earth minerals they supply us with. Trump mentioned how that's a weakness of ours in the Zelenskyy meeting and that's why he wants that deal so badly. We are also playing the FAFO game.
