Eh, I still wouldn't go into Little Woods if I did not absolutely have to even back then. I once referred to Lama's as the Lower 9 in front of Mr. Tony and he let me have it....he and my Dad were real good friends as was Chief. The one area I absolutely would not go into back then was the area off Chef and Dale by that lime green bldg at the corner. Now, back then cop parties I really wanted to stay away from.....and I had a family full of cops. Things could get out of hand.

But, specifically to the topic, I know Desi personally, she's a good person. Her and her Dad were incredibly kind and thoughtful to my mom when my Dad passed . Also know Cedric Richmond because my brother played American Legion baseball with him during the summers.....good pitcher and growing up, a good kid.

I mean this was kind of obvious when she got so much more campaign funding than anyone else.

She will be better than LaToya by default, at least.

7th ward?

from N Robertson to River to the east up to Chalmette was full of decay hence why we new it as lower 9th.

Such a strange interpretation.

She's a Democrat, any New Orleans mayor is going to be a Democrat, and there's no getting around that.

Any political office in Orleans parish will always be held by a Dem. The voting block is too ignorant to realize trying a new way may help get out of the problems they continually create.

7th district was part of the 9th ward just as the 5th district was part of the 9th ward

How is it a strange interpretation? When I grew up in East NO it was modern compared to the rest of the city where as the region described was old, blighted in comparison hence the name lower as we understood it, we also said that the uptown areas around St Charles was full of rich kids was that interpretation also strange.

There is nothing as slimy as a democratic party mayor.

Why not republicans?

Cities are so Blue that any republican has no time to develop the massive grift network that democrats have.

Police districts? I just never heard “district” used to describe neighborhoods.

I grew up in Chalmette and always knew the lower 9 to be called the lower 9. Went to Dominican for high school so I traveled through the lower and upper 9 daily for years. I always understood “lower” to mean below the industrial canal. I was born in the 80s.

Moreno is a more charismatic Charbonnet imo. The city would not have been in the shape it is today if Charbonnet won 8yrs ago.

Well yeah.

The only improvement with Moreno is that she’s easier on the eyes and she’s not lazy like the bridge troll Cantrell.

…but she’s 100% through and through a progressive.

I'll admit, strange interpretation, but not that strange. I knew exactly what he meant. Old 5th District right by Stallings Playground on St. Claude....7th was on Read by Joe Brown Park....All 9th Ward. Anything on the Chalmette side of the bridge to the Barracks was considered 9th Ward. Holy Cross was in Lower 9.

Lama's was just Ninth Ward.....and I ain't backing down on that. Mr. Tony will visit me from the grave to correct me.

I don't think Desi would have given a shite about Dem/Repub if an idea worked, it works. Part of the problem is the rivalry between the different black political groups like the old BOLD and DAWN that prevented things from getting done. 9th Ward bunch had a beef with 7th Ward and then one or the other had beefs with Central City types. I don't know if it is that way now......it's just broken.

Right before the bridge? Stallings is still there. Really nice facility now, too.

I live by the Stallings on Gentilly Blvd by the race track.

I'm pretty sure that neighborhood is still called Holy Cross. The new high school was rebuilt on what used to be St. Francis Cabrini? On Paris Ave. It's a beautiful campus, but not as charming as the original.

I'm not familiar with Lama's or Mr. Tony. The whole upper 9th is just called the bywater now. I never hear anyone call it the upper 9th anymore.

Tony Lama

Knew about the school, gave a nice donation about 6 months ago.....I'm a graduate....One of the brothers who is not religious from Arabi, hit me up and I could not refuse.

If you are from Chalmette you know whom I am speaking.
