You think voting against this is odd? That’s the best way you can describe this?

Can't wait for Newsome to get on the stage with DeSantis next year.

assuming that the legislation was “clean,“ however, this does seem like an odd result.
"Sometimes, bad stuff gets tacked onto good bills. Maybe that happened here. If not, it is odd that this bill was killed in committee."
Then I read the bill. The trafficking is ALREADY a felony. The bill basically sought to add generic "trafficking" to a list of CAPITAL offenses, for purposes of California's recidivism statute. It is not entirely unreasonable for a legislator to think that the State need not treat trafficking the same way that it treats murder.

it is entirely possible that someone looked at this legislation and said “trafficking is really bad, but it’s not nearly as bad as murder.“
For society, its worse
If you understood cause/effect, you wouldn't struggle with this

I doubt that. The bill would have added the measure to the three strikes law. Thus the equivalence is not murder, but such things as residential burglary and weapon related offenses
If your analysis is correct then what someone was stating is that “no someone that sells a child for the THIRD time isn’t as bad as that person who happened to use a weapon in a fight but didn’t hurt someone”

Trafficking children should be treated as murder. Don't you agree?

I did not say that I agreed with that sentiment. I said that one of the legislators on that committee could easily have reached that conclusion.
My grandfather once told me "Don't get angry until you are certain that he said what you THINK he said." You should listen to my grandfather, Roger.
You should also try to understand the legislation in question.

There is no hope for California. This is what happens when a state is governed by Democrats.

If your analysis is correct then what someone was stating is that “no someone that sells a child for the THIRD time isn’t as bad as that person who happened to use a weapon in a fight but didn’t hurt someone”
In this case, assume a 2-time felon who is then convicted of trafficking a kid. This bill would have dictated treatment the same as if that their conviction had been for a capital felony.
Maybe you think that is good policy. Hell, maybe it is good policy. But it is clear that most posters whining about this vote do not understand that this is EVEN the issue. They are utterly convinced that this is a "grooming" issue.

PedoHank thinks forcing kids to pick tomatoes is the same as being sold into sex slavery. Totes the same to a groomer
All crimes against kids should have the harshest consequences. You are more worried about the perps life, I care about the children’s lives and the pieces they have to pick up after it being destroyed. Children being sold into slavery (either labor or sexual slavery), through child trafficking; should be dealt harshly

Trafficking them to sell to someone to sacrifice the kid in a satanic ritual? Absolutely.
Trafficking the kid for sexual exploitation? Probably.
Trafficking the kid to pick avocados? No, not at all. Felonly? Yes. Capital offense? You are out of your mind.

Yes, clearly not partisan:

No Democrats who serve on that committee were willing to vote "yes" on the bill. The lone "yea" vote came from one of two Republicans currently serving on the committee. The other Republican was absent.
