How much was paid individually to them? I'll admit I'm not familiar on those specific numbers, but their treatment was probably the most swift & unfair towards a specific group of people in modern time America.
I fully support helping people when overnight their lives are collectively altered by the government, after working hard to build.

exactly.
this problem has a systematic accountability problem, not a systematic racism problem. And handout programs or straight repetitions isn’t going to fix that for AA’s or any other race in this country.

Do you want me to list the alphabetically?
How would I know? I just know that money was paid. But also don't know how many slaves there were, or their names, or how many of their relatives are still here etc...

I wonder if guys like Lebron will see some monies from this. No way they put a cap on this based on income, right? That would be indicating that many black Americans manage to create successful lives for themselves.

Ok, well I found these numbers
quote:
The legislation admitted that government actions were based on "race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership." The U.S. government eventually disbursed more than $1.6 billion (equivalent to $3,460,000,000 in 2019) in reparations to 82,219 Japanese Americans who had been interned.
So they each walked away with the equivalent to $42,082

So, the one's who actually were affected were given money. Makes perfect sense. The same should be done in California...Oh, wait...

Reparations in lieu of no longer shooting them 7 times in the back as they flee. Makes no sense.

I think I've said this before on here, but the problem is it is extremely difficult to fix The problems of others. I think the world of you klark, And I know you've got some problems, but so does LCA. And there's nothing, reasonably, I can do to fix your problems. If it were that easy we would have far fewer alcoholics and addicts of other kinds. Due to human nature, even if I could fix your problems I may not be inclined to.
One thing we have proven to ourselves time and again though, is throwing money at problems very rarely, if ever, is a solution. Certainly not a long-term one.

The state is burning. They can't keep the electricity on. People are already leaving at record numbers. The cost of living continues to skyrocket with no end in sight. And they want to focus on this shite?
I lived in San Francisco for 3 years, I could not wait to leave. I am considered a "hippy" here and drive a Prius-- that's what I expected to live there when I moved. I thought I'd find more people like me.
The state was full of self-entitled, shallow boomers who were so liberal they were nuts. They were not like me at all. I miss the scenery, but not the people.

Sounds like a win for both sides

All this BS for a state that had no slavery and was admitted to the union as a free state. The only folks that should have a claim would be the native Americans against the Spanish and Mexico from when they owned the kand

The reparations have nothing to do with slavery. It’s post slavery blacks that have been at a disadvantage bc of whites oppressing them. If we could all find the decency to chip in a little bit the world would be a better place.
Also, as an Italian American I would appreciate some reparations for my family being housed in a ghetto On arrival and having to work our way out.

So what about the black slave owners? This is a stupid idea.

Louisiana leads the nation in “white” people with African ancestry.
Maybe that’s where the coonass slur comes from.

I think we deserve reparations for what the British did to the Acadians. I can actually name my ancestors that were banished from Canada and migrated to Louisiana.

An initial problem is that, since the 1960s, America has spent well over $1 trillion on “social justice” (you could call it “reparations”), targeting to a large extent African Americans, providing cash payments, housing, food, day care, education assistance, inner-city development, transportation support, business start-up assistance, job training assistance, preference on government contract awards, affirmative action, legal aid, and a host of other programs to overcome disadvantages related to poverty and race.
As a very poor white kid, this was a hard thing to watch. My mind was not a terrible thing to waste, it was okay for me to go to bed hungry, and it's been interesting to show up at a job interview and watch their faces drop when they realize they won't hit a quota by hiring me. ( my first name has a unique spelling)
I am Irish, Cherokee, and Cajun. My ancestors all had it pretty rough, but we've done alright-- without everything mentioned above.

My old lady is 1/4 Native American. If they cutting checks she should get one first. Her ancestors weren’t even made slaves, they were just slaughtered. How did blacks move above them on the marginalized minority totem pole?
