California will develop a detailed plan for reparations under a new law signed on Wednesday by Gov. Gavin Newsom, making it the first state to mandate a study of how it can make amends for its role in the oppression of Black people.

The law creates a nine-member task force to come up with proposals for how the state could provide reparations to Black Americans, what form those reparations might take and who would be eligible to receive them.

Will this create excessive white flight out and massive black movement in?

my plan would be:

African Americans don't have to pay income tax for 10 years. Any money they make, they get to keep it for a decade.

I'd like to know how he plans on paying for this, isn't the state bankrupt. Maybe he should tax businesses to cover it and really push all businesses out of CA. frick that state, such a shame such a beautiful state (scenery wise) is so fricking screwed up.

Is there a percentage black you have to be in order to get these benefits?

New Orleans is quite the melting pot.

Giving preferential treatment to one race.

That’s racist.

I recommend all POCs move there right away to make sure they have established residency.

At least we'll finally learn exactly how many slaves were in the State of California before Emancipation.

"The Emancipation Proclamation, or Proclamation 95, was a presidential proclamation and executive order issued by United States President Abraham Lincoln on September 22, 1862, during the Civil War."

"Admitted to the Union September 9, 1850 (31st)"

12 years worth of slavery, should come out to about $3.50, taxable by the State of CA, every slave descendant should net about $0.05. And that's only the ones that can demonstrate factually their ancestor was a slave in CA during those 12 years.

California became a state in 1850. As a free state.
