Hate to say it, but this is a preemptive "for the greater good" move.
Cali's a big populated state, and ICU beds are limited. They may have a bunch, but not enough... nobody does.
There's a decent chance the NH pts, who are the weakest population, would show progression first. If you flood the hospitals with them, and then the NH's REFUSE to take them back, when the big wave of younger, healthier people (those incubating right now) breaks through, there won't be spaces available. You get a guy in his 40's or 50's that you almost certainly can save, but he can't get in because the beds are full.
It's ugly all the way around, and things will get worse before it gets better. Try not to lose your minds before it does.

I’m working from home so I don’t know the specifics but this is what I was told regarding our facility —
We have a wing of 23 private skilled beds basically it’s a short term rehab wing. One side of this 23 bed unit has gone to double rooms with rehab patients and the other has gone to double rooms with our long term ppl from the 400 hall so that the 400 hall can be for isolation only.
In the isolation only wing we have two residents that were tested and so far one result came back neg and waiting on the other. Not sure if they’ll move them when their fever is gone or the one with neg covid no longer has pneumonia.
I know they’re admitting NO one long term or to the rehab unit .. unless they decide that they can handle infectious residents maybe? I wasn’t exactly clear on their plan for that .. Not sure they have the staff for that regardless.

If Cali an get rid of the ole people, then their Medicare/Medicaid costs will go down. Remember, democrats are FOR killing a baby after it has been born. This is just consistent with their desire for death to humans.
God forbid you kill a kangaroo rat. The dems will want to give you the death penalty for that act.

Man, it is California. Those old people who paid all their lives into Medicare will simply be replaced by sick illegals who are getting treated for free.

Florida catches a lot of flack and I currently live in S. Florida.
But -
I lived in Cali for 4 years and their stupidity doesn’t even come close to Florida or any other state I’ve lived in.
Lived and did business in south florida for many years (Boca Raton). Been working on a business startup in CA for last 2.5 years. CA is a completely special level of stupid all to its own.

Californication kinda stupid
It isn't stupid. It is evil. Dim leaders don't do "stupid" things because they don't know better. They are legit evil.

Wow. I think we've totally overreacted to this whole thing, but this is a colossally stupid thing to do. The virus is clearly having more negative effects on the elderly.

Blows up that, "we're locking everybody down to protect the old folks" narrative

Califruitcake can't stand to second to New York. They must up their death count!

Are nursing homes obligated to follow this “direction”?
"There are several exceptions for these waived requirements on page 11 of the CMS document.
These requirements are only waived in cases where the transferring facility receives confirmation that the receiving facility agrees to accept the resident to be transferred or discharged."
LINK
So if I'm reading this correctly the nursing homes can say no.
I stand corrected.
"SNFs shall not refuse to admit or readmit a resident based on their status as a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case."
LINK
These State emergency proclamations and EOs are disturbing.

Typical leftist political move. Create a dumb, dangerous policy with the caveat of “take preventive measures “. Then blame the nursing homes for the obvious outcome

maybe we need to resurrect the concept of 'leper colonies' to house the covid-19 afflicted.

The important takeaway is this will be Trump's fault if anything bad happens.

What wave are you talking about? Younger, healthier people won't be flooding anything but the local CVS or an urgent care. This disease is deadly to older and unhealthy people.
California has about 40 million people. So far, fewer than 7,000 total COVID-19 cases are being reported. That is statistically insignificant.
If nothing is done beyond what we are already doing, then the big wave likely won't happen. If you put infected people in a locked down nursing home with older, ill people, then I guarantee you there will be massive loss of life.
This is pure lunacy on an epic scale. The people of California need to wake up, get mad, and tell the governor and his minions to go pound sand.
