Somehow Saban knew about Miles going to Michigan and reached out.

Yes, but I don't remember it being a well kept secret, at least not on this board. Between the few sauces on here (who were actually legit at that time) and the tea leaves, ALL signs pointed to Saban leaving Alabama and coming back here. Saban was the ONLY candidate, we were not talking about anyone else.

And then that crazy Saturday happened...

I blame Drew Brees and Doctors in Miami...Culpepper or Brees...You make the call!!!

Haha, yeah, that is true. Drew Brees and incompetent/overly cautious doctors in Miami played a part too! And Culpepper SUCKED in Miami

I always wondered if Pitt didn't upset West Virginia in 07 and Herbie didn't go on TV saying that Les was going to Michigan, maybe Nick would have coached one year at Bama. Then Les would go to his alma mater and Nick comes back here.

From what I understand and remember of that time, I believe this was much closer to happening than people think. I seem to recall that it was AFTER Saban's first year at Bama that he came closest to coming back to LSU. There were strong rumors that Miles was possibly (probably) going to leave for the Michigan job, and I recall that Saban was our top target if Miles left, and the feeling was mutual. Remember, Saban had a rough first season at Alabama....this was the season they lost to ULM, and they finished 7-6. Alabama fans were not exactly sold on him at that point.

And then somehow Miles decides NOT to go to Michigan, tells everyone to "have a GREAT day", we win the SEC Championship, and somehow as a 2 LOSS team we backpedaled into the BCS Champ Game. There was some dude on here at that time who had figured out how to calculate the BCS rankings before they were announced, so everyone on the board knew late that night that we would be playing in the ship....ALL IN ONE DAY. I literally woke up on that Saturday morning knowing that we lost out on the Nat Champ and we were losing our coach (who had two strong seasons), and the SEC Champ was basically meaningless. By the time I went to bed that night we were keeping our coach and were going to the natty. Absolutely the craziest day ever.

Those were good times. Long live the Mad Hatter.
Not sure if he was ultimately responsible for making the decision to not hire Saban back, but Bertman absolutely could not stand the guy. That is fact.
Are you referring to my brother Mike?

On a complete side random note, did you happen to go to high school overseas?

Oasis - Night 2 in Cardiff (Best concert Ive ever been to)

Oasis - Night 1 at Rose Bowl

Fontaines DC - NOLA
Jack Johnson - Laguna Beach (20th Anniversary of Thicker Than Water and September Sessions)

Zach Bryan - London
Thats wild. I never answer calls I dont recognize, so I could easily see my number going on a spam number list. Makes sense - one time i received a spam call from myself. Completely tripped me out lol
Not sure if already posted. Really cool interview with Saban saying that leaving LSU was biggest career mistake. Wow. I guess theres some real legitimacy about Saban recommending LSU to Kiffin.

I always thought this dude was a complete joke, but I actually have the ever so slightest bit of respect for him now.
That dude has stalked this board for coaching info in the past btw. He was active on here for the Jimbo Fisher drama...then Alleva decided that Miles could change and gave him another year lol
Damn, as someone who went to both LSU and Auburn, that was especially painful to pull for Alabama tonite. I feel like i need to go to confession tomorrow or something.
Damn, that still remains the biggest letdown of all time.

I caught this show in Laguna Beach a couple of weeks ago. It doesn't get more "surf music" than this. Hell, the greatest surfer of all time is even on the stage banging a tamborine.

I forgot to ask about the LA shows. I went to the Saturday show. We were even closer this time than at Cardiff show. We were a few feet away from the crying chick that made the album cover
