Cable news networks air Trump's comments in real-time. But should they?

Recently, there has been debate about whether networks should air Trump's words in real-time. Several media critics, for instance, told CNN on Friday that networks should not rush to air Trump's remarks made during pool sprays and briefings.

"Some advice -- demand to see the text in advance and if it is not truthful either don't air it or fact check it live on lower third," tweeted Joe Lockhart, the former White House press secretary under President Bill Clinton. "And cut away if he goes off text and starts lying."

key word is "news"

when the President speaks, it is news, like it or not

was true when Jug Ears was POTUS

they can always discuss their take on his comments

It’s crazy that we have to have a discussion about what to do because Trump is a pathological liar. But he is. And so here we are trying to figure out what to do as a result.

Translation: OMB!

ETA: And stop upvoting yourself. It's embarrassing.

Sounds like a great idea, if at the same time, Trump gets to pull the plug on CNN whenever they broadcast fake news.

I know that outlets like Fox News were not particularly friendly to Obama when he was in office, but the level to which most of the media is going against Trump on every single thing is reach absurd levels.

Why should they treat President Trump any differently than any other President?

PS - Oh, I temporarily forgot. They've been treating this President differently for 2 years now.

This is the old 'fact checking' crap the MSM has been using for years.
There is no such thing as 'fact checking'. It's a rebuttal. It's a response from the opposition.

Exactly.

MSM: Don't listen to his speech.
Here is what we think Trump was really saying...

Yeah, they would be treating him differently if they DO air it.

Why major US TV networks didn't show Obama's immigration address

On Thursday evening, President Obama took to the airwaves to present his plan for immigration reform to the American people. Unfortunately, many of the American people were not able to find him.

At 8pm, instead of seeing the president outlining his long-awaited overhaul of one of the country’s most hotly debated issues, ABC viewers were treated to an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Those tuning in to CBS were presented with an episode of The Big Bang Theory; Fox network viewers saw Bones; and viewers tuning to NBC were be able to enjoy The Biggest Loser: Glory Days.

Yeah, they should not air it instead of trying to fact check it (that would take too much time).

Again, they didn't show Obama's primetime speech in 2014. Were they Fake news then?

By way of the 2014 Obama standard, of course they shouldn't.

they simply cannot allow trump to speak freely on their networks unless they can only show small bits completely out of context and edited to change what he really said
