“Brian Wilson’s California died decades ago”

Outstanding piece that describes how California went from being the most desirable place on Earth to a battlefield between the US and Mexico. Well worth the read.
Most people simply don't know just what we lost.
Went went from American kids playing Beach Boys tunes to Mexicans screaming that Cal belongs to La Raza… “The Race”. Ted Kennedy and his ilk should have been strung up.

California, as Michael Anton writes in his book The Stakes, “was the greatest middle-class paradise in the history of mankind. Yet, in barely one generation, that California was swept away and transformed into a left-liberal one-party state.” How did that happen? It began with the passage of Hart-Celler in 1965, which transformed the basis of immigration and ushered in a period of rapid demographic change in America. The new immigration regime created by Hart-Celler abandoned the quota-based immigration system that had prioritized immigration from European countries that shared closer cultural, religious, and ethnic ties to the United States. Instead, immigration under Hart-Celler would be based on family reunification, the need for workers, and the protection of refugees. At the time, Democrats like President Lyndon B. Johnson and Sen. Ted Kennedy assured voters that Hart-Celler would not, in Kennedy’s infamous declaration, “disrupt the ethnic composition of our society.” They were wrong.

I’m tired of pretending the Spanish language is beautiful. It’s annoying and grates on my nerves. I wish the French or Russians or literally any other language speakers had colonized that area in the 1500’s.

Different strokes. Russian has a soul like no other language, Spanish is supposedly so much “deeper and meaningful” than English. Yeah fricking right.

There were many who thought that electing a Catholic to be president in and of itself disrupted the ethnic composition of our society.
Many on this board seem to think that white people have some monolithic culture. That is new. Back at the turn of the last century, if you weren't an Anglo-Saxon Protestant, you basically weren't white.
The Immigration Act of 1924, which led to the quota-based immigration system that had prioritized immigration from European countries, was in large part trying to stem the tide of Catholics (and Slavs) entering the country.

When I was growing up in New Iberia we had a lot of Spanish residents. They spoke French. But I doubt if a modern Frenchman could understand Cajun French.

California is lost. The middle class has been completely squeezed out. The state is only for the rich elites who can afford to live there & the immigrant serf(Labor) class who gets government assistance & lives 6-8 people to an apartment or small home. My wife is from California & left in 2010. 90% of her friends she grew up with have also left the state.

California is fubar. It’s a shame, because it is our prettiest state.

Best weather/scenery. Everything else is pretty putrid

Do a search on the board for the word "culture" and check the context in the posts.
Hell, I've even seen Jews referred to as white on this board.
