Love the President but if he allows himself to fall into this Iran trap he is making a terrible mistake.

The Iranians do not want a war with the United States.

There is no stomach for war with Iran from inside the US.

Who does want to see us in a war with Iran?

This isn't complicated. I hope the President can see it.

It's definitely more complicated than you are giving it credit for.

We don't want war with Iran (or anyone), but we also cannot tolerate having our assets attacked.

If we do not retaliate, then NK is going to assume we are paper tigers, and they'd be right.

We are going to blow something up, then it'll be up to the Iranians exactly how far things go from there. Mark my words, something in Iran is getting reduced to rubble within the next few days.

I know nothing about foreign policy and I wasn't in the military.

Iran has been pissed off at us for reasons that have always been unclear to me. It has been this way since I've been aware of foreign policy. We had to pray for the hostages when I was in third grade.

So would someone explain to me why after Iran doing this kind of crap for literally my entire life, I am now supposed to be pissed off that they shot down a flying object with nobody in it?

We all know they did it for attention. I'm confused about why we would give them what they want.

I'll never understand NeoCons. Really ever. Or why Obama gave them 150 Billion in cash.

Let the Iranians battle it out with the Saudis. They hate each other anyway. I have no desire to deal with them.

How many $100 million+ pieces of equipment should we allow other countries, especially hostile countries, to destroy before we respond?

This is correct.... there is no good way for this.

It simply is what it is.

A single reaction might be all we need to do. Sending an invasion force won't be a good thing

I would not be surprised if the drone was gutted of all but necessary flight equipment. Classic bait.

I agree with you but there is always a part of me that just says wipe em off the planet already. Okay I got that out, again.

I think he is going to destroy something of theirs to show strength maybe; but the JCS Grahams and neocons will say bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran. (He is just getting the dems on board to do a small retaliation or maybe nothing at all.)

How far is too far then? A drone isn't enough, then what? Do we let them keep fricking with us and spending Obama's gift to them as they push towards building a few nukes? Targeted strikes are not palatable?

We literally put 15 times that amount of money in an airplane in like 20 dollar bills and sent it over there. So I guess the number is somewhere higher than 1.

Really. Why does this matter?

They’ve been mad at us since ‘79 when we took in their overthrown dictator. They took Americans as hostages. Iranian leadership is prideful and believe they should rightfully hold a spot on the world stage, since they used to be a world power dating back to all the Persian Empires of the past.

My guess is that the battery that delivered the drone strike is 'bout to be history.

Why do you think war is the only option?

Iran will get the message with a few well placed cruise missiles and drone strikes.

Except when Reagan sent a bunch of F111's to Libya with a very impactful message to Muammar. They went in and dropped 60 tons worth of bombs on 2 airfields, 2 barracks, a camp and the Libyan air defenses in Tripoli and Benghazi. All within 12 minutes.

There were no supporting boots on the ground, there was no round after around of bombings, there wasn't even a naval buildup in the Med. The just flew over, kicked Libya in the face then went home to enjoy a beer or three while they let Libya think about what they had done to receive such a response.

And that was pretty much the end of Muammar's active attempts to kill American soldiers.

That's what Trump needs to do. No warnings, no parades, no grand plans involving tons of logistics and weeks or pre-planning which telegraph a response. No, you just go in and bomb the frick out of specific targets then get home for Millertime. No apologies, no offers of assistance, nothing but a response that's along the lines of "we can do this, and worse, at any time we choose. Remember that."
