If you've been running a very successful organization for 100 plus years, don't give in to liberal fricks and change everything.

Luckily, those aren’t the only two choices.

Organizations that deal with children must be ever vigilant against pedophiles both homosexual and heterosexual, male and female. Schools, churches, sports, and organizations such as scouts present a target rich environment for predators.
In years past organizations often tried to keep these incidents quiet in the mistaken belief that this was best for the child and organization. There should be a statute of limitations for these organizations.

There are still pockets of good Troops that are insulated from the PC nonsense and the finance issues. Most strong troops are tied to strong churches, and they hold true to the original Boy Scout mission. If you are lucky enough to have one of these in your area, highly recommend scouts for your sons. Kids now spend so much time cooped up playing video games, and scouts forces them to be outside and learn things besides Xbox hacks. Plus the summer camp infrastructure is not going anywhere either

Im not going to shite on the scouts, but how successful could they be if after 110 years, there is less than 50k in assets?
Should they have had a more iron clad hold harmless or waiver to be signed? I know that is what we are all crying out for in this country: more paperwork!

Congrats! That is quite an accomplishment.
My dad wanted one of us to be an eagle scout so badly. My older brother was the badge right before it. I was, I think, 3 or 4 off of from making it. I didnt care about those as much as the camps and the merit badges. That was what I remember most.
It was one of those things I wanted my boys to do, but time just got away from me and I never enrolled them.

Exhibit A for why "Progressives" should never be allowed to refer to themselves using any word that falsely portrays them as standing for "progress".

This is a HUGE win for the Filth as they work towards the destruction of American Institutions.
Good work!!

Besides, South Park addressed this conundrum years ago in Season 5 Episode 2 "cripple fight".

I grew up in the Assemblies of God church so we had Royal Rangers, which was awesome. I'm no longer involved in church but wanted to give my son the opportunity to experience scouting so we tried Cub Scouts thinking it would lead into Boy Scouts. It was a disappointment. Granted a lot of it depends on how organized the troop is and who you have running it. Ours was dominated by women who just baby the kids and you can't do anything like we did with the early years of RR. Just silly kindergarten arts and crafts stuff. The curriculum is so dumbed down, no learning about how to handle knifes, axes, knot tying, lashing, fire building and stuff until you're nearly done with cub scouts.
Never heard of Trail Life. I hope it is a suitable alternative that can give kids the kind of experience I had with RR. Looks like they changed RR a lot also.

Another scout here... it was starting to turn PC back when I was a teenager and I ended up leaving before finishing my Eagle Scout Project (had all the other requirements done) because the Troop was changing so much with an influx of... let's just say people who didn't fit the mold of those I had grown up with in the Troop.
Girl Scouts has turned into a total shitshow and Planned Parenthood has practically taken the organization over. Now they concern themselves with "family planning" (abortion) and gay/lesbian bullshite.
My daughter will be joining American Heritage Girls in a few years when she's old enough.

Why does everyone in here blindly believe that "progressives" and "liberals" caused this to happen? This has been going on for decades within the Scouts.

ALMOST 8,000 LEADERS IN the Boy Scouts of America have been accused of sexually abusing children going back decades, according to records the organization has maintained.
The records began shortly after World War I, and Warren reviewed data from 1944 to 2016. Within the files were the names of 7,819 "perpetrators who they [the Boy Scouts] believe were involved in sexaully abusing a child." After analyzing the files, Warren identified 12,254 victims.
Anderson said at the press conference that the Boy Scouts has "a long standing practice of preservation of these 'perversion files.'" Based on information gathered from public documents, Anderson said that 130 of the alleged perpetrators are located in New York and he released a list and map of 50 alleged abusers in New Jersey. At least four are priests.

These days? Not so much. Over the last 50 years, very prevalent.

Because absent the direct actions of the Obama administration’s targeting of the BSA, they would have enough members and revenue to survive the lawsuits.
