The actual slaves got 40 acres and a mule. Which was a lot.
The 40 acres was confiscated from landowners and given to freed slaves.
Today it is just more welfare culture entitlement . Stop all welfare and free stuff and enforce laws on the books, they will move to Europe….

They should do in the form of periodic payments. Can you imagine how awesome our southern cities would become if they all moved to New York and Seattle?

Those who push this will NEVER be satisfied with ANY amount of money they could ever be given to them. BUT if we gave them a check under the auspices of any future grievance they claim based on race would be null and void, like any grievance based on that, $800k sounds like a bargain to not have to listen to the perpetual bitching and moaning!

Somewhat torn on this. They definitely do not deserve any type of reparations. A large part of black Americans are already getting a ton of government support. But if they agree to take a set amount and never get another penny, that would be interesting.

First, reparations by New Yorkers have been paid.
Second, reparations for what, specifically. Median Black income in NY is New York City: ~$60,000 and New York State (Overall): ~$54,000. Median income in West and Central African regions, regions of US slave origin, runs roughly 1/100th of that at $500-$600 per year. Reparations for that differential? It is more than a bit audacious to demand money for a situation in which reparations were paid, in blood, generations ago, and the alternative would be a $500/year salary in a 3rd world nation.

There are an estimated 3 million African Americans in NY. At $800K, that's 2.4 trillion. The estimated GDP of the city is 2.6 trillion.
The city just "balanced" it's budget by borrowing 8 billion from the state. This would cost 300 times that.
