It is. Same as the Dallas Cowboys being “America’s Team.” You can self-proclaim anything you want.

Green Day has had lots of hits. They've sold millions of albums, play stadiums today, and are in the RnR HOF. Hate on them all you want, and I was never a fan, but they are objectively much bigger than Ted Nugent or Kid Rock or whoever we're supposed to pretend is great because we like their politics.

Wake me up when September ends.

This is a Rock Legend…
Billie Joe Armstrong is just a little irrelevant, washed up one-hit wonder pussy from almost 30 years ago.

So he didn’t want to be an American idiot controlled by the media so now he’s just an idiot controlled by the media?
What a basket case.
What a basket case.

Kid Rock is a legend. I have never heard of this idiot.

Multiple #1 hits, remained relevant across 4 decades, brought an entire genre from the underground into the mainstream, wrote one of the best and most successful rock operas of all time, almost single-handedly created the phenomenon of “selling out” as the underground bands they used to gig with at Gilman Street got jealous of their success. Also, their Saviors album they released last year was really really good. Best thing they’ve done since at least 21st Century Breakdown.
We can clown on Billy Joe for being a progressive moron (granted, he’s been extremely consistent throughout his career), but let’s not pretend Green Day isn’t a big name artist.

I hope you had the time of your life.

Although rich spoiled Leftists, Rage Had an authenticity to it that Green Day could never touch.
Green Day was the 90s version of The Monkeys.
Both were completely contrived acts designed to present a watered down, lowest common denominator, disposable version of what was popular at the time with older, more discriminating and sophisticated fans (in the case of The Monkeys, that was the Beatles. In the case of Green Day, it was Nirvana.)
As you say, they had no authenticity whatsoever.

I actually liked Dookie CD back in the day.
The songs BJA wrote were catchy. No shame in liking them per se, but the asterisk in that sentence is that it depends on HOW you (not you personally, the royal "you") liked them.
if you thought Green Day was a great band that wrote profound and highly original music filled with personal messages of great importance to both the writer and audience, then, yeah, that's kind of shameful.
If you just found yourself humming along at the redlight with "Good Riddance," while not thinking much about the band beyond that, there's no shame in that.

Woo hoo! Great news! Please take your shite music with you.

Jk it’s just a culture thing. Apparently they say Beyoncé is one of the greatest artists of all time and when I heard that I had to listen to some songs to see how that could be. I’m not urban enough I guess, I had only heard 2-3 of her songs before and most of her music was released in my childhood

Someone never listened to American Idiot, and it shows.

It's well known among groupies that he has a super small penis. It explains a lot, actually.

No, I don’t have the time to listen to you whine.
