quote:Nope. He'd only have to do that if the 2 races were held in the same election year. With LA gubernatorial elections being held in odd numbered years, no one would ever have to give up their congressional seat in order to run for governor.
Is he required to vacate his senate seat to run for govenor?

Dude pissed off so many republicans in the state, I just can't see any conceivable path of him getting out of the primaries. I mean, MAYBE if he chooses to run as a democrat, but how's that happening?
Someone like Landry is a horrid possibility, but I'd crawl a mile over hot coals to vote for him over Cassidy, if I had to.

Making the runoff will be his biggest challenge if a prominent Dem like Mitch runs.
The biggest question is will Mitch take the step down from being the recovery czar on the national stage to become the governor or a backwater state.

A Mitch, Landry, Cassidy election would almost certainly end up with a Mitch/Landry runoff.
Splitting the vote enough could get Mitch to 50.1%. I think Cassidy might just be a chaos agent who likes to frick everything up.

JBE benefitted from a regional split amongst the republicans last time. In his first election it was a silly (contrived?) "moral" split.
What's the demographic appeal of Cassidy that you think will "split" the republicans - even with Landry as the alternative?

There was still a runoff though. The real harm wasn't a splitting of the vote in the first round, it was the harm done by each republican to themselves making the surviving candidate weaker in the runoff.

I cannot fathom how he thinks this is a good move, literally NOBODY likes him.

No, I get that. That was my whole point. JBE succeeded by situations that put republican voters into camps in the primaries to the point that large segments were seething at each other come the general, such that a large portion stayed home.
Who is the big group that you envision is going to be Cassidy's "camp" in this scenario?
