Hyperbole much?
How many goods do we import that rely on American diesel to get to market? If we quit exporting, would the cost of those goods then rise?

The increase would be more than proportional to the rise in domestic diesel, which is the basis of this policy.
So if that's your response, it should be directed at Bessent

If we restrict distribution to US states only then that would also cut out California since they don’t identify as a US state.

Trump is a lot of things.
Free market certainly ain’t one of them.

Sure but not skyrocket.

Do you really believe we have free markets?

Another decent discussion:
They mention towards the end about a nationwide hours of service waiver that went into effect a few days ago. Tanker truck drivers can run 16 hour days now to deliver diesel.

Why shouldnt we be doing this?

The MAGA lurch left should not have been surprising.

if we stop exporting diesel, it would increase availability of diesel in America which should lower prices in America.
What about all the goods we import that will skyrocket? What impact will that have in prices in America?
You missed my point. If we decrease exports of diesel to Europe, we increase diesel supply in America, prices fall.
WHATEVER systematic impediment that causes the basic principle of supply and demand to fail, needs to be corrected.
Again, I ask.... if we decrease exports which increases supply, why shouldn't prices fall?

They can just refine less oil overall, which would result in less gas production as well.
Diesel and gas are refined at the same time, generally speaking. The ratio can be tweaked to favor one over the other, but if they flat cut refining volume, less gas will be produced and gas prices will go up.

Supply and demand
We don't have a fuel shortage here and here the demand is fairly steady. We produce a lot so prices should be good for us here in that model.

They will but since California imports foreign gasoline, they say it will cause retaliatory restricts which will increase the price of gasoline.
Plus Bessent said the main reason is Russia banning export if diesel because of the attacks on their refineries by Ukraine.

And I pointed out assuming this is correct (which is debatable), goods everywhere else will increase (due to the same delta causing that price decrease). This means all of our imported goods will become more expensive, offsetting these gains.

That ship sailed when Trump declared war with Iran

No. The US has plenty of oil and diesel. We get zero oil from Iran. But because a person speculates the price and sets it, everyone pays that price.
Oil is getting out of the Strait, but prices aren't coming down. That's because there is a global power struggle.

So we expect foreign producers to eat the cost increases?

Just supply and demand.
