Why should society fund someone’s personal decision to go to college?

Attending college is a career choice to qualify for certain jobs. Attending k-12 is not.

People can get a college education for free...most professors won’t mind if you come and sit in on classes and take notes...so what Bernie really wants is to raise everyone’s taxes significantly to give people pieces of paper

How have college students--simply by having gone to college--improved the population and made us a healthier society?

Two more years

Four more years?

Master's degree? PhD? As long as someone feels like going?

Because prior to the 1970's formation of the DOE America was chaotic? That the 1800's were chaotic?

In my county, the school district budget is larger than the county budget. That is not free

What type of useful degrees will be earned by cognitively deficient scholars or does the discriminatory academic ability come into play?

I’m confused here as K-12 is certainly not free. Where do they think the money comes from to fund these public school districts?

Do these people really not think there is a fundamental difference between k-12 and higher education?

I agree that free college would be a disaster, but I don’t think this is a good argument. What is so fundamentally different?

Teachers. Classrooms. Textbooks. All these things cost money. The government can tax us to death to get money.

And given the rising costs, much like with healthcare, if the GOP sits around and watches costs skyrocket out of control and claims “bUt MuH fReE mArKeT”, while a bunch of swamp creatures enrich themselves with student loan money... then people will vote in socialism.

More educated? How does greeting a degree in sociology make one better educated? You, like so many, don't know what education is and diploma mills for peons able to retain enough information to dump it out on a test doesn't produce an educated populace.

The economy is not in need of more college graduates than are already produced. This is a ridiculous thing to push.

We pay for K-12 via state and/or property taxes.
