I imagine there's some recency bias in that, but certainly of all the generations I have direct knowledge of - that's the case.

Every generation has it better/easier than the previous one. I'm not sure why that causes such heartburn for some, but it's the result of remarkable technological advancement and silly to deny.

In 2000 the national debt was about $5.5T.

Today it's $35T.
