Yea,too bad that Northwest line didnt get extended to Cumberland if not further.
I know multiple who worked for Coke and Turner who lived up 75 in Cobb and almost all of em told me they would've preferred taking rail to work rather than sitting in that traffic every day.
Hell, even extending it up to West Paces Ferry (the last "hub" before hitting the Cobb/Fulton line) would be an improvement. But yeah, MARTA should've been in Cobb 25-30 years ago at a minimum (especially now with the Braves at Truist).

MARTA is/was looking at putting infill stations over where the Beltline intersects the heavy rail lines. To fix the "miles from stations" issue, you'd have to build new lines (I'd kill for a line from Arts Center to Cumberland near my house, for example).
And in typical MARTA fashion they haven't done it. I can tell you I am looking to have Jessica Alba in my bed tonight. Doesn't mean much. Don't even get me started on the Beltline having light rail either it is never going to happen. I live right on the Beltline and would love it but it is fantasy. Atlanta just can't get transit right. The one thing I will say we have done right and are improving on is bike lanes. Baby steps I guess.

To each their own, and at least it exists.
I'm not anti mass transit but even the most ardent MARTA fans I know admit that as a whole the system is a joke.

I didn’t flip out and I wasn’t shaken up by a goddamn thing frickstick.
it sure sounds like you were. You went on a multiple paragraph diatribe that essentially boiled down to 1)I saw a black guy in a very liberal part of town and I didn't like it and 2)this very liberal part of town that I went out of my way to go to required masks. The kroger by me also requires masks still, are they a militant organization? How bout the gas station too?

It must suck to be so thin-skinned that you can’t see that your city is going down the crapper.
I don't hang out around I20 or in the dangerous parts of Atlanta so no I don't see that. My area is doing quite well and if I didn't have kids I'd live here forever thank you.

At least I can admit that except for a few areas my home city of Baton Rouge has become pretty much a shithole.
BR is one of the biggest murder capitals of the country and you're lecturing about atlanta! Less than 20 people per 100,000 were murdered in atlanta last year while 31 per 100k were in BR. And baton rouge doesn't even have 1/50th of the amenities atlanta does. Yeesh

I’m sorry your city sucks and that you’re so defensive about it.
My city sucks, yet so very many people continue to travel and visit here LOL. Above all that is one of the thigns that always makes me shake my head. Pepole from out of state do nothing but absolutely shite on Atlanta because they saw a homeless guy once or watched too much CNN, yet they sure seem to be here a lot. Hey man if you hate atalnta so much why were you there?
-well the jobs were a lot better than my hometown
-i wanted to see a concert there
-there was a sporting event i really wanted to see
-they have a restaurant i really like
-my work sent me to a conference there
-my international flight didn't leave from my hometown so i had to go there
man for as much as atlanta apparently sucks a lot of yalls lives sure would be worse for wear without it..

Where ITP do you live? It shouldn't be taking you that long especially during Covid to get anywhere.
In the NE part, so pretty far from the airport. And you realize covid is like a microscopic blip on teh city's timeline right? Driving from here to the airport over the last 1 year is not anywhere close to a "normal" situation.

Hate that my hometown has become what it is, but it makes me happy about the decision to leave.

I think that's sorta the point. Atlanta used to have one major area that wasn't safe at certain times. Now you have to go down a list, and if you looked at a map there would be red areas all over it. That's not progress.

Random shooting? A couple my aged were murdered in the parking lot of a burger joint we would go to because it was a “fun place”. Sorry but the Vortex isn’t that special and there are dozens of safer options for my family. There is simply no need to take my family to L5P. We gave Lennox mall a chance because it has a the main location of signature store we wanted to shop at. We tried, it was an awful experience and we won’t be going back.
NE ATL is dumpy and I85 is flat out dangerous

Can you be a little more specific? Are you talking about near the North Druid Hills and Clairmont Rd area? Chamblee? That's a very general description. Even then you can take Briarcliff Rd to Johnson Rd and snake your way in that way if you are coming into the intown neighborhoods that is much easier than getting on the interstate most days. Airport yes you would need to use the interstate at some point.

The irony is that L5P always considered themselves the rebels and misfits. Now, they are the freedom hating gulag.
I grew up on the Candler Park side of L5P in the 80s/early 90s. I remember when L5P was home to skinheads and skaterboarders, and they lived peacefully with the old hippies and folks who wanted it to be the Haight-Ashbury of Atlanta. The whole attitude was anti-yuppy, everybody love each other and abide by MLKs teachings.
Then in the min to late 90s, the suburbanites discovered it and would make the trek in to see the weirdos at the Halloween parade.
Now I think the kids/grandkids of those folks have grown up and become so woke that they've turned into what their parents/grandparents were so strongly against, just in the other direction.

You have to walk miles from some of those stations to get to amenities and destinations and office buildings
Like where?
Marta pretty much covers the biggest centers of employment (Federal & State govt are the biggest) and 10th and North Avenue somewhat covers Coke and CNN/Turner and both have free shuttles for any employee to Marta stations.
There are some areas like the financial Ctr, Virginia Highlands and the Northeast that need to be more accessible but short I've having some type of ridiculously expensive spur lines there isn't much you can do.

There is a Vortex in Midtown also no reason to go all the way into L5P. You sound like someone who lumps 'Downtown Atlanta' into being one area that is filled with crime and violence. For the most part if you live in the right neighborhoods intown Atlanta is an awesome place. Its safe. Plenty of young families with children are moving here. Can it be expensive? Sure. But it beats the hell out of living in Gwinnett County or parts of Cobb now and those places are only going to continue to get worse while the city improves since we won't have Bottoms as a mayor anymore. It was perfectly fine before she came along and pandered to the criminals.
EDIT: I do agree with you about Lenox it used to be a place you could enjoy and I go there maybe once or twice a year if that. Its a shame what has been allowed to happen to that part of Buckhead.

Thank you, headed to Woodstock and Cherokee County and it’s 70% Trump vote as of next weekend.
Full of normal people who actually yelled at BLM demonstrators in downtown last year. Salt Factory is pretty good there as well.

I do admit and said it earlier that things definitely took a downturn last summer due to all that shite, but Atlanta as a whole is still fine. I mean I don't ever venture below I20 anyway, or really anywhere near downtown. The places I go are back on their feet and doing well. The only reason I have to move from where I am, which will probably be in 5 years or less, is for schools for my little one. But it's comical to see outsiders lump atlanta in with portland, minnesota, and other hellholes that are truly being overrun by filth. They ahve no clue what they're talking about.
I always tell people to go hang out at the Battery or Canton St. in Roswell and get back to me about how bad of a shithole Atlanta is.
ETA: Granted, you'll see a huge majority of a certain demographic in both places. And I'm not talking about the type of people who are the reason for everything you love about New Orleans.

I mean, black people didn't ruin academia. White people did that.
I suppose we could blame it on another demographic but they certainly didn't ruin Atlanta.

My sentiments exactly. Criminals are emboldened with the election of so many Soros prosecutors. I carry on a regular basis and will not hesitate to blow away the first thug who threatens my well being. Really don't want to have to kill anyone so it's best I just stay home.
