Aristotle was probably one of the highest IQ people to ever walk the earth.

Given that term limits are a discussion here from time to time, I like this quote of his:

quote:

It is not easy for a person to do any great harm when his tenure of office is short, whereas long possession begets tyranny.

Another discussion here is 'rules for thee but not for me.'
I'm wondering if term limits would change that. Those rules will be for them in a few years instead of being exempt for life.

It's a complicated dynamic. Aliens will inherently have gratitude for any improvement in their lives by making the journey. Natives have a tendency toward complacency, and are more difficult to control because they have a sense of entitlement to the standard of living they were born into.

That isn't an apology for the belief of the tyrant, but an understanding of why these groups function as they do.

This gets into what motivates us. It's wrong to assume that aliens are naturally "better" or harder workers. Leaving a homeland is not common. It's the rarity of exceptionalism.

The folly is in assuming "all" aliens are inherently better. If you make the journey too easy, then you are no better off than moving one ghetto to another.

If Rome had not engulfed so many men of alien blood in so brief a time,

if she had passed all these newcomers through her schools instead of her slums, if she had treated them as men with a hundred potential excellences,

if she had occasionally closed her gates to let assimilation catch
up with infiltration
,

she might have gained new racial and literary vitality from the infusion, and might have remained a Roman Rome, the voice and citadel of the West."

LOSS OF COMMON LANGUAGE

At first immigrants assimilated and learned the Latin language. They
worked as servants with many rising to leadership.

But then they came so fast they did not learn Latin, but instead
created a mix of Latin with their own Frankish, Spanish, Portuguese,
Italian, Romanian, Germanic and Anglo tribal tongues.

The unity of the Roman Empire began to dissolve.

Thomas Sowell, makes a good point about this.

People that work for others become successful by adopting the language and culture of their benefactors.

People that are entrepeneurial/self-sufficient in nature don't need to. They succeed despite their lack of assimilation.

My own thoughts about this: This is why it's important to offer your immigrants something better than what they are fleeing. If you don't, you will be replaced.

In my opinion, what the left in the US is doing is cultural suicide. Value is not something that can be forced through political will. It takes a market of ideas and innovation that isn't constrained by political hacks. Unfortunately, we seem to be on a superhighway to Roman collapse by academics and community activists.

Aristotle remained the benchmark on biology, mathematics, physics, earth sciences, and philosophy until pretty much Newton.
Yet somehow we have all forgotten his ethics, which for anyone with a lick of sense can see it’s a guideline to a good, happy, and honest life.

He was a Pederastic, so only kinda gay.

Pederasty wasn’t only expected in Classical Greek society, it was the social norm. Watch Troy, Achilles young cousin Patroclus wasn’t just cleaning Achilles sword on the battlefield

quote:

The ideal pederastic relationship in ancient Greece involved an erastes (an older male, usually in his mid- to late-20s) and an eromenos (a younger male who has passed puberty, usually no older than 18) (Dover, I.4.: 16). This age difference between the erastes and the eromenos was of the utmost importance to the scheme of the ideal pederastic relationship. The power dynamics involved in such a relationship, with the erastes always in control, ensured that the erastes kept his dignity as a fully-functioning member of Greek society, while the eromenos grew up under the tutelage of such a man and as such could become a great citizen when he reached adulthood. Both people in an ideal pederastic relationship would have practiced great sophrosyne, or taking no indulgence to excess (Dover, II.C.5.: 97). The erastes shows restraint in his “pursuit” rather than his “capture” of the young boy, and the eromenos would similarly show restraint by not immediately giving into the older man’s sexual desires.
