So, no one has an opinion on my assertion that if the government is going to mandate registrations, licenses, etc for ANYTHING, there should be no cost associated with it.
It's the GOVERNMENT demanding it and the government already gets tax dollars. If the government can't afford to provide licensing services with it's general fund, then it should pound sand.
I'm OK with licenses but let's all be real. Almost all "licenses" and "registrations" are just revenue grabs.

There are folks in this world that believe in that same god and aren’t allowed to travel freely, hold a license, or own a private vehicle.
Ur gubment made those things possible.

I’m not. I’m arguing that if public safety is such a grave concern and therefore justifies license requirements, why are we limiting public safety concerns to only certain dangerous situations?
I’m not making an argument for gun restrictions. I’m making an argument for fewer restrictions period.

I don’t want to make any assumptions - who is making the absurd argument?

Ha. Maybe I lack the immunity.

Does this imply that the number of gun deaths would remain relatively the same even if passage of a written test was required?
Yeah, I suppose. It doesn’t ergo imply it is any way analogous to operating a vehicle, though.
Of course, don’t read that to imply licensure fir operating vehicles is one of my big cause celebres. I’m just not sure what that has to do with an object that is actually intended to kill people when operated properly.

This a response thread for the other guy's thread complaining about govt overreach on pilot's licenses?

You're entitled to move freely amongst the US. Not entitled to drive a car for travel.

Fair point.
I see motor vehicles as extremely dangerous so I picked the first other dangerous thing that came to mind. I truly don’t care about more or fewer gun restrictions. Laws are stupid. They exist solely to punish people.

I mean, you’re talking about a sizable chunk of revenue and budget. Either government programs suffer or taxes increase.

No. It’s a thread about a philosophical topic because I’m not at all interested in discussing California or immigrants or Twitter.
I have a drivers license.

If laws kept society safe, our prison population wouldn’t be so robust.

Our prison population wouldn't be so robust if people didn't break the freakin' law. I have little empathy for folks who knowingly break the law and end up in prison.
What, if any, laws are you okay with? What do you think actually deserves prison time... Murder.... that's a given (I hope). What else?
