Exactly. Anybody who actually does any level of coding, automation or work making mechanical things work sees through how stupid this idea is.
Walk through a cabinetmaker's woodshop... Would you suggest that the "robot" edgebander or the sander be taxed because they gain efficiency with those tools and use less labor?
If I make a Python script that automates 60% of a receptionists job, would you create a made up legal entity for that block of code that is paid and then taxed as if its a person? It's beyond stupid.

She says a lot of ridiculous shite, but when talking about massive automation in the future this isn’t out of bounds. In fact, this is a fairly well discussed idea - what happens when robots replace human capital and the world economy is a few trillionaires and a bunch of jobless folks? How does humanity benefit from automation? UBI? I think the $$$ side is an easy fix. The problem will be giving people a purpose.
Except the whole premise is completely flawed. People will continue to do the things that machines are terrible at... which is an insanely long list.
People don't like being sold by machines, machines can't do artwork or philosophy or creative endeavors or groundbreaking medical research. Humans use applied technology to further those pursuits, but the technology is a tool. Nor can computer algorithms figure out how to make themselves better through the types of self aware thought and mathematical theory that we are capable of. You for sure don't want machines even doing simple things like designing skyscrapers or bridges (although they help). There always needs to be a human to test and reason through a design when lives are at stake.
And don't get me started on AI... its all marketing hype right now. What IBM and Google call AI is really just advanced pattern matching for a limited problem set.
Technology is going to continue to revolutionize our work if we are smart about it and stay educated, but people need to stop reading the marketing brochures from a handful of tech companies.

So everyone who looks at human nature and history with an open mind will agree that Communism and socialism are not the answer. Unless the question is how do we ensure that true “income inequality” is as bad as possible and everyone other than the oligarchy is ether unhappy or in a mass grave somewhere.
But what is the answer?

The projects in New Orleans are rife with art. Where else can you go to peruse street graffiti murals whilst being serenaded by beautiful lyrics such as "F--- da po-lice"?
Meanwhile in Baton Rouge, home of a pillar of higher learning, one great political philosopher by the name of Gravy spews forth great knowledge of sociological issues today. Even they have murals dedicated to child racists who were unjustly gunned down by racist officers for selling CDs. Oh the brigandry!

AOC says robots should be taxed as much as 90%.
90% of what, exactly? Such a vapid suggestion.
90% of robot owners income? What if robotic based income is only a small fraction. What if its mixed with income generated by wage earning human beings.
Example: Mc Donalds replaces cook with machine that can drop fries, flip patties, and then convey assembly sandwhich. But you still employ people to interact with guests, take orders, keep things clean, etc.
So does that store owner get taxed at 90% of.... what again? Simply having some aspect of robotics in his restaurant means all taxable income is taxed at 90%??

Obviously these people have never seen Mondo Cane.
They do appear to have watched Star Trek.

Is it your opinion that this can go on forever and that it’s “stupid” to worry about a historically low workforce participation rate despite a still growing GDP?
Rate is being driven by aging population, not automation.

But what is the answer?
To look at results of various systems, empirically.
Communism/socialism always fails. It denies human nature and has to be imposed/maintained by tyrants. That's a terrible recipe even if it does certain things well for a time.
The "collective" over the individual just becomes an excuse to do all the things the left want in the name of the "greater good."
Now contrast that to capitalism, even in its unchecked, "Robber Baron" state - it facilitates the flow of goods and services from those who can provide them efficiently to those who need them and this is the magic - this rising tide does, indeed, lift all boats. Have government stay out of the way, mostly, and only intervene to maintain a fair competitive environment and you see the literal miracle of the modern, Western way of life.
Everyone ON EARTH benefits from Western advancements in medicine, agriculture, technology, industry, transportation, etc. The reason this is possible is that innovation and enterprise reward those who do it. Take that potential reward away and what do you have? The Soviet Union where the guy running the car plant made the same as the janitor at the plant, the doctor down the street or the cab driver working the airport.
In the West, we value those contributions differently. For good reasons. Not denigrating hard work but literally anyone can be a janitor. Most can handle the demands of driving a cab. Fewer can be doctors and productive plant managers.
You see, in Communist/Socialist systems, you move up by sucking up to the authorities. In capitalism, you do so by making yourself of service to others.
From which societies do you expect (and have seen, empirically, over and over, with out own eyes) more?

How on Earth do you think that is the same thing? Within 20 years almost half the workforce will be replaced by automation. They aren't people who live in project housing, moron.

People that move to automation are still going to need consumers. I don't see why you wouldn't want our society to have a completely automated set up where people barely had to work at all

You want to make a bet on that? 20 years?
If there is widespread, systematic massive (>25%) unemployment it would be due to artificial government intervention or the US defaulting on its debt or World War.
