quote:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn't afraid of the rise of robots, but she agrees with Bill Gates that they should be taxed for taking jobs

quote:

Wealthy robot owners, she added, could be taxed by as much as 90%. Ocasio-Cortez cited comments by Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who suggested that robots should pay the taxes for the people they replace, although he didn't name a precise figure. "What [Gates is] really talking about is taxing corporations at 90%, but it’s easier to say: 'Tax a robot,'" Ocasio-Cortez said.

quote:

It would require a total reimagining of work and leisure time. But Ocasio-Cortez isn't the only person to argue that automated labour would free humans up to do whatever they like — normally something worthwhile or creative.

quote:

"We should be excited about automation, because what it could potentially mean is more time educating ourselves, more time creating art, more time investing in and investigating the sciences, more time focused on invention, more time going to space, more time enjoying the world that we live in. Because not all creativity needs to be bonded by wage."

Business insider

AOC lives in a fairytale world.

It's worked so well with our welfare system. Just look how the housing projects in new orleans ended up... overflowing with science, art and knowledge.

As my father always says, better to keep your mouth shut and have people merely think you’re stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Hell, it's just a short step to 100% - then we won't have wealthy robot owners at all. Problem solved.

These people have an appointment with "the real world" and I predict it won't go well.

So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet colored beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Wasn't this one of the reasons that Nancy Pelosi said we needed Obamacare?

The fact that at least 25% of the voting public absolutely subscribes to whatever political vomit comes from this chick's maw is chilling.

What the robots need is a “living wage”. Then they could pay FICA and income taxes. And since they don’t need the wage.... just send that in too.

We've been hearing this crap since the 70's, how technology is going to lead to time off and creativity...

Well what did the internet bring? Internet trolls, porn addicts, Pirated music and movies and a completely self-absorbed generation……. Yeah, left to their own devices, Americans will not become Bach or Beethoven.

And more tax payer money to fund this 'creative' lifestyle.

Tax the robots and give money to the robots that don't want to work.

Or the equally sad reality that we are clueless utopians who are blissfully ignorant of both human nature and the law of unintended consequences.

Pro Tip: When fantasizing about the future, never forget that the smart money will always be on the Morlocks.

She says a lot of ridiculous shite, but when talking about massive automation in the future this isn’t out of bounds. In fact, this is a fairly well discussed idea - what happens when robots replace human capital and the world economy is a few trillionaires and a bunch of jobless folks? How does humanity benefit from automation? UBI? I think the $$$ side is an easy fix. The problem will be giving people a purpose.

I want anybody that feels the need or desire to not work not to be forced to. Just don’t ask for the government (tax payers) to pay for it.
