i never used that insurance so in no way could i be a "free rider". i contributed to the pool of insurance and received nothing. i was literally the opposite of a free rider.
my coverage was not "inadequate". the only way it could have become inadequate is if a specific hypothetical event occurred(that never happened) and then a SECOND hypothetical event that required the first one to occur, occurred (that obviously never happened)
i would not need "expanded" coverage under my old plan, unless you think i can have babies (hint: i cannot)

I can't imagine paying $700 per month in health insurance. That's gotta blow a hole the size of Texas in many middle class budgets. And I know a lot of people are paying significantly more than that. Many, I'm sure, are having to do things like downsize their homes.

I don't know what to tell you other than I'm sorry. Seriously, this is ridiculous. If you have a family, it's going to cost you more than a mortgage on a $250k home.
Think about that for a moment: does it cost more to provide health care for a family of three than it does to provide them with a decent middle-class home?
Which components of which medical procedures cost more than the aggregate cost of growing trees, processing them into wood, buying a lot, pouring concrete, erecting a home, laying a floor, paving a roof, attaching fixtures, furnishing appliances, and paying for all of the labor associated with the above?
Doctors make good money, but it's not their salaries that are inflating costs so much.
Think about that for a moment: does it cost more to provide health care for a family of three than it does to provide them with a decent middle-class home?

what really irks me is that when establishing market prices is discussed, you hear politicians, interest groups, and liberals talk about the cost of health care of old people. these people have had decades of insane economies and investment opportunities to build their nest egg/retirement...and they want to CONTINUE to get unfair treatment?
at the same time, kids my age and slightly younger have college loan repayments, inflated housing costs, lower employment/salary opportunities (b/c the baby boomers refuse to retire and are halting many promotion options), etc...and we STILL have to subsidize these people by paying for their health insurance with increase premiums for us?
seriously. frick them. frick anybody who supports this. you're sapping away the economic future of a generation and a half for no logical reason

You raise many good points but the one about our generation's (I'm assuming you're in your 20s/30s) lack of participation in a robust economy is a supreme differentiator between us and previous generations. Sure, we haven't had a Great Depression, but the GD was followed by an enormous boom. We literally have our own version of Japan's "lost generation" and it's anyone who graduated college and entered the professional workforce for the first time in 2008 or later. These people have no idea what it's like to actually participate as a worker in a 3%+ GDP growth economy. I'd wager this is directly responsible for the fact we have so many people with degrees who are underemployed, minority unemployment is so bad, and SJW groups like Antifa and BLM are on the rise. It also contributes to people at or beyond retirement age not being able to retire yet. I've said it elsewhere tonight but I'll say it again: economic growth is the ultimate civil/human rights issue.
