And you still refuse to realize that the plan you had pre-ACA was useless in the event that you actually became sick and needed to use it. You weren't paying for a plan then, you were pretending to pay for one.
Please scan his certificate of insurance. It's clear you are in possession of it.

And surely a severe illness that your then-'insurance' would have covered without dropping you and covering the exact same elements as required by law under the ACA? Yeah, no.

the biggest jump came before the GOP had the power to do this.
Again, not insurance to insurance. But the lawsuits began within a week of Obama signing the law, so you're wrong there too.

i'd still be using that exact same plan today if it was an option. because it's exactly what i need
And what happens when you become ill?

are you implying i am too stupid to make my own decisions?
Absolutely, hell I'll go beyond implying it. You're too stupid to make your own decisions on this.

i'm not married and a male, so no
Are you a eunuch? Never going to seek a relationship with anyone of the opposite sex (or even same sex with adoption, you do you)?

but why does this have to be a legal requirement?
Because otherwise you create 2 tiers of health insurance - 1 for those who think they don't need certain coverages (until they do), and one who need it. It's a de facto pre-existing condition because of how insurers would price the plans.
quote:
why can't i contract with my insurance companies like i did pre-ACA and not be subject to that risk pool?
Who do you pay your premiums to? You're still contracting with your insurance company.
quote:
why am i forced, BY LAW (not contract) to pay for things i'll literally never need?
Because you literally might need them, and because as I explained above allowing them to exclude those who think they'll never need certain requirements from purchasing them drives the price up for those who do need it.

oh so we're getting into 2nd degree hypothetical here?

uh, they actually won on an important part of those suits (the forced Medicaid expansion). that means they were right and those sections of the ACA were illegal. hell the individual mandate itself almost was ruled illegal so don't act like these were bad suits. they protected the population from illegal policies in the ACA. do you support promoting illegal policies or something?

i pay up to my deductible then insurance has my back

i only have sex with women who have health insurance on their own. i mean i have a gf now, who obviously has health insurance, but prior to that...yeah. i had a lot of restrictions on who i was intimate with
quote:
Because otherwise you create 2 tiers of health insurance - 1 for those who think they don't need certain coverages (until they do), and one who need it.
i won't need it. there is nothing wrong with allowing me to craft my coverage to my needs
again, why do you think it should be a legal requirement that my plan covers everyone's needs? it makes no logical sense, unless you're trying to create a redistribution scheme through law to help out one class at the expense of another.
quote:
Who do you pay your premiums to? You're still contracting with your insurance company.
why can't i contract with my insurance company to tailor coverage how i want (within their offerings). that means, specifically, why shouldn't i be allowed to buy insurance without maternity coverage (like i could pre-ACA)? you're making my choices ILLEGAL. you have a high burden to justify that sort of action and i'm curious if you have any sort of justification for that intrusion into my privacy and property other than redistribution to punish me and reward someone else
quote:
and because as I explained above allowing them to exclude those who think they'll never need certain requirements from purchasing them drives the price up for those who do need it.
so you're Ok with me being punished to reward these people?

60% of that hike is directly due to their sabotage of the ACA.
It is an outright lie to blame Trump for cutting the subsidies to insurers to guarantee a level of profit. Trump is following the rule of law AS WRITTEN BY THE DEMOCRATS WHEN THEY PASSED THE BILL IN 2010. No payments can be made without Congressional approval of the expenditures. OBAMA WAS BREAKING THE LAW. This is yet one more example of the liberal filter and spin when it comes to the disaster and fiasco that the Affordable Care Act has always been.
My premiums went up 65% between 2012 and 2015 and Trump was not even a declared candidate.

No, we're explaining to you why the plan you liked so much wasn't the same as the one you don't like.

I'm not commenting on the legal quality of the suits, merely explaining to you that they're directly responsible for some of the price increase you saw.

You still can - healthcare.gov.
Or are you under the mistaken impression that health insurance wasn't regulated pre-ACA?

You can't be trusted not to be taken advantage of by predatory companies. You're welcome!

I'm okay with you paying a down payment on future health care needs you may require, and keeping costs down for everyone as a result.
Why do you want sick children to not receive care?

Of course it isn't, since that's exactly what he's doing.
And he could fix this easily by announcing he'd sign a bill permanently fixing the CSRs - instead, he's off pretending he knows how to spell deal and blowing up real ones.

Bama ATL has convinced me that everyone who got sick prior to the passage of ACA was immediately dropped from insurance and died from lack of medical care. I forget any of that actually happening but apparently it did.
Posted on 11/1/17 at 1:01 pm to BamaAtl
The worst part of all of this is how politicians have successfully convoluted the terms "insurance" and "health care" to where everyone having the conversation can't discern the two or they have to take a step back and define the terms prior to any argument given. Because everyone has access to emergency health care. Everyone has access to long term care. Everyone has access to a family doctor. The question is the cost both short term and long term while also considering emergencies. Who should pay for that and how? What exactly should insurance cover? What should people be responsible for themselves in the same context that they're responsible for buying toothpaste and a toothbrush? We get auto insurance to cover the unpredictable. Why am I paying "insurance" for things we know will happen and can plan for? Children, checkups, birth control, etc. And all of this is wrapped in a system where the customer and service provider never exchange a cent. 90% of the time the customer has no clue that they're going to pay 4 different providers for a single service: the doc, the facility, the drug manufacturer, the lab. The system is shite to begin with. Our understanding is shite due to that system. And the ambiguity and ignorance that creates is a perfect opportunity for the liars (re: politicians) to take advantage of in order to line their own pockets.

i understand they're different. they also cost a metric frick ton different. sub-$100/mo with a $1500 deductible is a difference in a small luxury sedan car payment (and i get some equity in the car at the end of it)
i'm fine with a Civic option at my age and with my health. it's the rational choice. i'm covered for catastrophic events and will pay out of pocket for primary care. that's a great deal for me, personally. now it's illegal
quote:
I'm not commenting on the legal quality of the suits, merely explaining to you that they're directly responsible for some of the price increase you saw.
well the ACA was a poorly-drafted law with shitty regs. that has a lot more to do with it (but he suit just highlights these issues)
quote:
That has to be an awkward tinder pickup line.
it's just discipline
i've passed a lot of "easier now" opportunities in life because the big picture was more important. like foregoing Ivy League universities (that i could not afford) for LSU (where i was paid to go). again, sacrifice that I made to get out of the single parent, lower-middle class situation that I was in.
now i am getting punished for making the optimal decisions and you're not only supporting that, but making fun of me for doing the right thing. you do realize what you're doing, right?
you're literally mocking me making optimal choices while also arguing that i should subsidize people who made lots of sub-optimal choices. in what world is that logical or rational? hell, in what universe is that moral?
quote:
Because that's the way to make it cheaper and useful for everyone.
so i get punished after making sure i do everything i can to better myself?
quote:
You still can - healthcare.gov.
Or are you under the mistaken impression that health insurance wasn't regulated pre-ACA?
uh, pre-ACA i could negotiate a plan without maternity, and did
post-ACA we cannot legally do this. you keep avoiding the exact scenario i'm posting of and trying to sound smart by doing so
quote:
You can't be trusted not to be taken advantage of by predatory companies. You're welcome!
i'm not worried about it. being above a 140 IQ has its perks
quote:
Why do you want sick children to not receive care?
i never said i didn't
however, people who had more optimal decision trees to follow to avoid putting their children in that position shouldn't be rewarded. they should be punished for their sub-optimal decision making. why do you want to reward people who put their children at this risk?

he's already done this. he told Congress to figure it out to avoid the illegal CSR payments he had to write an EO over
Congress has to figure this out. Trump said he's waiting to sign their solution

So why are we all obligated to insure a level of profits for insurers who voluntarily participate in a system that has been defective from the start. A better solution would have been to create an assigned risk program for those shut out of the market and leave the programs that were working for the great majority of us alone.

My rates are going up too.... again. Could have bought a second home (more tax revenue), opened a second business (more tax revenue), or invested (more tax revenue). Ours went from $400 a month to $1,700 a month for less coverage and higher deductible. Thanks democrats and fake republicans.

Well, that is until a crime has been committed and they refuse to provide a description of the perp when black or Muslim
