There are new people coming forward. This double jeopardy bit might save certain people from getting named publicly (because they were only associated with the original victims).

I don't think Epstein's going to be saved.

He may be right. But the SDNY made a huge outreach for additional victims when announcing the charges, so hopefully they cover that.

In terms of the trafficking charges, were they all related to US victims. In short, if there were foreign victims, would those crimes be covered under the same charges, or could they be submitted as new charges?

Whoever compelled Acosta got away scot free

Was probably one of the familiar scumbags

My assumption from the first time I heard this break was that the feds were hoping to get new victims to come forward with new allegations to allow them to elide the double jeopardy problem altogether.

The issue is his plea deal said he was getting a non-prosecution agreement for any offenses against the U.S. up until 2007. If there are new victims after that date, then I think he could be prosecuted. They also supposedly found child porn in his home. They could prosecute on that. The issue would be what right did they have to search his home. If they got a warrant based on something covered by his agreement, I’d guess there is a good chance the search warrant is not valid so the finding of the child porn is not valid.

I hope there are charges that are clearly not covered by the agreement as I want him in jail. I just don’t want to see the government getting hinkie with things and trying to get a second bite at the apple on the same charges. The right to prosecute is a powerful right. We don’t want the government to be able to expand it even if it’s in pursuit of a vile person such as this.

I haven’t read his plea deal but he could have violated part of the agreement.

If he violated any part of the deal then there is no double jeopardy.

Interesting. We won't know if he violated it because it is secret. He supposedly gave up some fat cats in the financial crisis. Who went to jail no one...Who jumped off their balconies plenty back when.

From my knowledge he is being charged with crimes that occurred 15+ years ago in New York. Statute of limitations don’t apply to underage sex crimes (I think).

I don’t think he’s been charged with anything that occurred after his prison sentence in 2007.

Rachel Chandler is singing like a GD canary and I'm pretty sure what she knows is above and beyond what he was charged w under Acosta.
