They've been trying to run out small and medium sized ranchers for decades so they can consolidate the industry and set prices.

our beef from Brazil sooner than later.

We already are - every heard of JBS and National Beef. They along with Tyson and Cargill control 85% of the beef packing industry

Most of America's problems could be solved by getting rid of oligopolies and preventing regulatory capture

Cedar grows like a fricking weed in WTX and consumes a ton of water compared to other species. So it makes our water issue worse and takes over pastures. We used to have a ton of mesquite and now have hardly any because the cedar sucks up all the ground resources which also impacts the ability of the grass to grow. Sucking up water plus grazing space means you have to die. But it's an impossible thing to get ahead of because the chemicals that are safe to use to kill it take forever, then you need to go rip it up which destroys the pasture for a season.

Thanks for the info BillJamin

There are lots of things you can do with chicken, pork and fish. The only time I use beef is ground beef on sale because it expires tomorrow.
Winter is the best time to put marinated chicken pieces in the broiler on high for a nice dark brown color and crispy texture.

Wonder if there was any truth to what Rip said in Yellowstone that we'll be getting our beef from Brazil sooner than later.

Foreign meats in general are pretty shitty. No one raises livestock like we do.

I eat steak 2-3 times per week. I cooked a prime strip last night. The price would have to be $100/lb. for me to back off.

That’s why I buy beef on the hoof.

Damn unsuccessful elk hunt did put a crimp in my red meat supply.

I've often wondered why there aren't more cattle ranches further eastward (Louisiana, southern Arky, MS, Bama, southern TN, etc). Is it something about the grass or soil?

Uhh? Why can’t we just breed more since we already have cows here.

I'm sure you're right, but I will blame Biden and over regulation, because I can.

And just so you understand exactly how much it means to me to do that, I'll share that for health reasons I am a vegan.

Beef prices don't even affect me personally.

This is why I raise my own chickens and rabbits, and also hunt and trap. I haven't bought ground beef or a steak in several years.

Growing beef is an investment just like row crops only longer. To breed cows and get calves to market weight is a 2 year process.

Increase inflation through government spending, and cause the cost of energy to go up (diesel and natural gas, which is key for fertilizer production), it impacts everything. I need to restrain myself from going into BBT from Landman.

Add on regulatory takings (restrictions on use of your own land and water resources, etc.) and then subsidies provided to favored crops, the list of government activities that screws over livestock farmers seven ways from Sunday, and yeah, government sucks.
