Americans fleeing to Ireland now to escape threats of rape, beatings, and death.

I hope Ireland can fast track Ophelia and Zahra's asylum applications status because these threats of rape, beatings, and death are something they shouldn't have to put up with in the US. Thank you to France 24 TV for alerting everyone to how dangerous the situation is for them.
FRANCE 24 segment (and earlier Irish reporting) about a married transgender couple, Ophelia (~25) and Zahra/Zahara (~23) scrambled to leave with nothing but the clothes on their backs from the US in 2025 and applied for asylum in Ireland, citing their fears linked to Trump’s return to office, GOP policies recognizing only two biological sexes, and their accounts of personal threats, discrimination, and hostility.
They are living in a direct provision center in Scariff, County Clare, since May 2025 and receive the standard weekly allowance of around €38 each while their claim is processed.
94 of these asylum seekers fled the US to Ireland up from 22 in 2024.
