UNITED STATES SENATOR
Buddy Carter - Current US House Rep whose district covers the coast and SE Georgia including Savannah, Brunswick, and Waycross. Campaigns as a Trump guy, his ads play clips of Trump praising him at rallies. Third in campaign funds behind Collins and Dooley. Struggled a little bit in establishing himself in the race as he occupies the same lane as Collins. Small town guy who has been successful in life and politics.
Mike Collins - Current US House Rep whose district includes Athens, small towns and rural areas between Atlanta and Augusta. Like Carter, campaigns as a Trump guy. Has the most campaign funds. Solid name recognition. Emphasizes his role in the Laken Riley Act. Outspoken critic of Athens political leadership. Most outspoken of the three major candidates. I'm voting for him.
Derek Dooley - Lawyer and former football coach. Son of UGA coaching legend Vince Dooley. Big name recognition. Kemp endorsed, has appeared with Kemp at campaign stops around the state which is a benefit as Kemp is a popular, twice elected Governor. Says his disconnection from Trump is an asset in a purple state like Georgia. Says he would welcome Trump's endorsement but will not actively seek it. A bit of a wild card as a political newcomer. Speaks in generalities, offers little specifics.
It sounds like Collins is winning the primary.
You know that you aren't a good candidate when you can't speak for yourself in your own TV ads (kemps latest push for Derek Dooley in TV ads the past 2 weeks).

Went to vote this afternoon. Northeast Gwinnett/Mulberry area. As of 5:00 our precinct had done 577 ballots total. Line wasn't bad when we got there but was backing up as we left.

Negative.

Jackson (for Gov.) just rubs me the wrong way. He seems like the kind of guy who work extra hard to enrich himself through the office. Come to think of it, as he said, he is just like Trump.

I used to live just north of Tribble Mill Park about 20 years ago (near harbins and 316).
Voting lines were better than living in DeKalb County prior to that. But still maybe 30 minutes or so.
I early voted in Dawson County. About #900 at one of two precincts. No wait.

I went with Jones for governor, there's just something about Jackson I don't trust. Like a couple of you already mentioned those Supreme Court seats are crucial, I did my part

Having a senator for a pastor and using his pulpit to stump. You see him doing it don't you?

We'll get another bite at that apple though.

Why are property taxes a State of Georgia issue?
Why are property taxes a State of Georgia issue?
Honest question.
Each county assesses value, sets mileage, collects, and disburses funds.
Who is the dumbass that doesn't know property tax is a county issue and made this a campaign promise this election cycle?
It's an issue because property taxes in Georgia are incredibly high and continuing to soar. And it has reached the point where it is putting some people out of their homes.
For me, my property taxes are well over $13K a year now, well over $!K a month. That's ridiculous, IMO. If you are a Republican or a conservative, you should have an issue with it.
It is a state issue because some of the exemptions are state law.
There is a state base exemption enacted by the legislature. Eligible seniors 65+ can claim a exemption from county taxes. The General Assembly frequently passes local bills, or local ballot measures, allowing counties to implement larger exemptions, such as school tax freezes or larger assessment reductions. For example, a statewide legislative push has even involved proposals to freeze or completely eliminate local homestead taxes over the next several years.
Further exemptions beyond the senior exemption could be implemented by the legislature for various people based on income, first time home buyers, etc etc, while still allowing localities to determine how much to implement.

Yea he should be a good speaker; he's a lawyer, he's a coach.
But the guy is just awkward and a complete unknown beyond his family name.

Then go to your local county and vote in the people to fix the county.
Your personal vote carries a much stronger weight than on the state level.
Property taxes often funds county spending. Any reduction in taxes needs to be accounted for by the spendor.
You control the spending and then you can reduce the taxes. And the state of Georgia is not needed at all.
When a 3rd party organization is arbitrarily affecting the county budget with guidelines that are tailored to no one, you are more likely to get a clusterfrick at the county level.

Why is $13k ridiculous?
How much is your home on zillow? How much does the county have it assessed at?
For all I know, you are getting a deal.

I am for exemptions on seniors.
I would personally cap it at 62.
My county disagrees. They have a 30 year property tax window. Pay taxes in the county for 30 years and then you are exempt.
There is no reason not to have counties manage county budgets.
Are you for states rights?
Why wouldn't you want the smallest municipality possible passing and enacting laws for their citizens?

Just voted in Floyd County (6:45 est). The total ballot count was 692 when I was submitting my ballot. I would call it a semi-rural part of the county. Make of that what you will.

The judges races are looking pretty good. Despite stronger overall Dem vs. Republican turnout looks like independents backed the conservative judge candidates very strongly.

As of 8:45, with 33% in, for the gubernatorial it’s looking like a Jones/Jackson runoff for the GOP, and Bottoms avoiding a runoff for the Dems.

I’m down in Wax community/Silver Creek and those numbers sound very close to our precinct when I voted at 6:15.

They were all unknown. Dooley will become the suburban, safe choice. He’ll be competitive

Precisely. He talks a good game, but he is a snake selling his own oil, IMO.
God forbid he win the runoff, I'd support him in the general in November, but hopefully it won't come to that.
