Is this why our Congress has been going to Africa?

Considering that their tribes sold them to our ancestors to eliminate enemies and competition for territory, we should spit that right back in their faces. Even better, every time a city burns, we should invoice them.

Here's an interesting thought.

Think of someone like Lebron James or Beyonce. If they had the chance to go back in time and keep their ancestors in Africa as opposed to being sold into the slave trade, which option would they choose today? (Lets assume they are still alive in both scenarios and there is no butterfly effect that would alter anything else in time).

Option A, they could be born into Sierra Leone or Ghana

Option B they were born in America because their ancestors were brought here through slavery.

These countries sold off their captives to slavers and, from what has been said, most of the choice slaves ended up sold off in the Caribbean well before they ended up in the US.

Any ending up in the US tended to be the ones no one else wanted because we were the last leg of the triangle trade (rum distilled in the US sent to Africa to sell to the chiefs) before they headed back to Africa.

Have them return the appreciated value of the payments made by the slave traders to purchase them in the first place.

and stipulate that any of them so identified must relocate back to their original homeland.

Didn't we already pay those African countries when we bought the slaves FROM them that they captured in battles, etc.?

Their numbers are off. About 12MM were sent to the New World (North America, South America). However, only about 500,000 actually came to the United States. The largest number of US slaves were born here to slave parents.

Edit: My numbers for the US were off. It looks like it was about 388,000 made it to the US. PBS.org

And most of that 12m died off because an awful lot of places buying them worked them to death.

The US was one of the only ones with positive population totals.

it was only because of Western/European/Christian enlightenment that there was ever and would have ever been an opposition to slavery. And that is why it was ultimately Europeans/Westerners who abolished the practice in the the civilized world.

For sure - whenever I am in a personal discussion with someone who brings up the slave question I just ask them to put themselves in the time and place and circumstance of the person they think is at most fault and describe what a better action could have been taken - and to analyze how much effect that one action would have had in changing the current state of the slavery issue.

Never had a taker - all they can do is say - "well it was still a bad thing to do" - to which I agree on an individual basis, but nothing would have changed the current situation..

I say Africa give every black American 160 acres for selling them to Spanish and English slave traders.

That's about the equivalent of Germany asking for reparations from the Jews. Those Africans dumped into the slave trade didn't capture themselves.

Maybe we should do what Castro did and empty our prisons to be dumped on their shores.

Considering who is in our prisons, that WOULD make up a sizable percentage of descendants of people they sent here.

Ask Liberia how well it works to have a bunch of black Americans show up expecting to run things.

They can get reparations from their own shitty people, whose ancestors conquered them and sold them into slavery.

They might also try the European banking cartels, who made rivers of money from the slave trade. Or maybe they can pay reparations to Europeans whose ancestors were enslaved by Africans.

frick these endless grifters.
