The idea that government of any kind should be able to restrict individual liberty, based solely on a probability of a crime occurring at some unknown point in the future, is a recipe for abject tyranny. In a country of 330 million people, these kinds of depraved acts are going to happen.

Have you noticed that your doctor asks questions about depression, etc every time you visit these days.

Yeah, when the “red flag” laws go into place, any response that they don’t like will be considered a red flag.

So the red flag applies if I live near or am related to someone that is crazy. Maybe I work with them or sat in the same section at the LSU game. Just can't be too careful can we. I mean if it saves just one life...

So, someone says they have had thoughts of suicide is probable cause? Of what crime, exactly?

Yeah, suicide is not a reason for that. Worst case they buy a rope or jump from a building.

That's not how it works The accused has a right to a hearing before his weapons are taken.

Who presides over these hearings? And please be very specific, thanks.

THe problem with some of you people is how extremely naive you are and/or how completely ignorant you are to just how shitty and corrupt the real world is.

Not a shot in hell these trials would be fair and neutral

They literally just chose a Harry Potter LARPer to be the head of their Ministry of Truth. I'm sorry, they basically just chose Dolores Umbridge to be the head of these hearings, and they only fired her because she was too obvious and on the nose. Them choosing Nina Jankowicz tells you everything you need to know how these hearings will go. Someone like her would pardon a black man who shot up a Kosher market so long as the person had the right political opinions.

I’ll agree to this if you can tell me how many school shooters obtained their gun legally and as long as the number is above 50%. We know the 18 year old shooter today did not purchase this gun himself legally so that’s one down

Once the very first Precedent is set, it becomes only a matter when, not if.

Before you give a power to your government, imagine what that government could use that power for if it was wielded by your greatest enemy. Imagine someone who absolutely hates your guts, who is malicious and vindictive beyond all rhyme or reason using that power just to screw you over. If the consequences of that person armed with that power scares you, then the government should never have that power.

Why? Because politics is inherently cyclical. People you trust might be in power this year, then four years later get replaced with radicals with diametrically opposed ideals. As such, any power granted to government WILL eventually be in the hands of someone who absolutely hates you and wishes you were dead. It’s an inevitability. Our government was designed to grant safeguards to the people to prevent their rights from being taken away by such a vindictive government. Any attempts to weaken those safeguards should be resisted at all costs.

Key word: THESE. Where's that going to stop, especially with an FBI and CIA out of their minds? Me saying that the FBI should be disbanded and multiple high ranking members should go to jail will be seen as arrest worthy soon.

Leftists: Trump is a tyrant who will take away all our rights!
Also Leftists: I totally trust government, and that they won't violate my rights.

It's gotta be a hard life living like that.
