This is one of the greatest job markets in history. If you can't find a good paying job right now, I'm not sure there is help for you.

I blame it on "trying to keep up with the Joneses" to use slightly aged parlance. And the accoutrement that goes along therewith. Instant gratification and whatnot.

Because we are dumb. Though our economy is way worse than our parents in terms of cost of living to wage. Inflation has sky rocketed.

This started happening in the 80s along with a weird infatuation with class and status. People are obsessed with it today

Millennials are the killers of work force productivity and efficiency. They want 75K to start just bc they got a degree and then, "oh, I actually have to do work?"

100k combined is not struggling if you dont live in a stupid state like California or New York. Problem is people want the nice car with the nice house and 3 fricking kids that play 9 sports.

I feel like I’m getting wildly mixed messages on what millennials want

Millenials don't want to wait 10-15 years working before they make 6 figures. They expect to make it before they're 30.

It's unreal expectations.

Depending on who you ask millennials aren’t even the new graduates entering the workforce right now.

But yea, for 180k degree one hopes the job market yields something more than 30k

Millennials have a ton of debt. However, they don't help matters with the "I want it now" Veruca Salt style decision making. I mean, when you work at Sam's part time, and your spouse is a car hop at the Sonics, you probably shouldn't be buying the dream home on HGTV.

Absolutely. When I graduated from HS, real unemployment was terrible. Started working in a sheet metal shop for min wage while going to college. It was backbreaking work but a guy did what he had to do.

The home buying shows are great comedy. "She's a part time floral arranger and he builds artistic wicker baskets. Their budget, $1.2 million."

It's pretty amazing the evolution from the 50s to now in too many ways to grasp. But two that are comically stark in difference from the 50s: dont buy shite, dont publicize political beliefs.

Keys to Success:

- Don’t do drugs
- Don’t break the law
- Graduate high school
- Learn a skill/skills that will make you money (make sure you get return on investment in education)
- Don’t buy stupid shite on credit
- Don’t get pregnant or get a girl pregnant before you are ready for marriage and family
- Don’t date or marry people who break above rules
- Don’t have more kids than you can afford

I am a millennial who relatively does not worry about finances because I made good decisions and don’t buy random stupid shite. We go on trips, have nice things, have a nice house, and save for retirement. I don’t expect anything to come free. It is all about not making stupid personal choices. I also didn’t have someone hold my hand through the process. The stuff above is common sense.

Struggling as in the soccer moms can’t buy a new Tahoe every other year and the family has to upgrade their phone every other year rather than every year?

Anyone living in CA or NY and whining about cost of living, gets ZERO sympathy from me.

Overall our economy is great, but for white males it’s more difficult to succeed than it was for white males 30+ years ago. Much more preference given to women and minorities simply because they’re women and minorities.

My wife was one of the ones who went to college, racked up debt, and ended up getting a job with a salary of 35k. It’s her fault however because she refused to drive to the city where the pay would be more because she doesn’t want to deal with traffic. She bounced around to different employers trying to find better pay before finally sticking with one. She now makes 50k+ with promotions in reach that pay upwards of 80k. Been with the company for 3 years. Took her a while to comprehend that the fantasy of walking into a job making 50-70k starting out was just that. Fantasy. Add in the fact every Tom, Dick, and Harry has the same degree and you begin to understand that piece of paper doesn’t entitle you to what you think it does.

And whoever said “those making 100k a year are struggling to keep up” are doing just that. Trying to keep up. If you can’t get by with 100k a year the problem isn’t the income, it’s your habits.

You think middle class today means something different than middle class 25 years ago?
