We paid just over $300k in personal income tax last year. My wife and I should each get like 10 votes to counteract the leeches.

Not exactly.... hotel rooms are some of the highest of the sales taxes. Typically 13-19%, depending on which city/ state you are in.

Most workplaces also overtaxed the shite out of their employees, so they get refunds when they would otherwise be paying taxes.

Blame the business and their accounting depts for being shitty at their jobs more than anything.

And many get a refund even though they don’t work.

If the government is paying for them to be in the hotels, the taxpayers are paying those taxes or the government entities are exempt from paying those taxes.

Fair Tax would fix 100% of this, would fully fund the government and it would fix a significant number of governmental societal cultural problems because 100% of citizens would have some kind of financial skin in the game.

I’m starting to come around to the flat tax fans’ way of thinking — 10% across the board.

Rush Limbaugh explained why this will never happen years ago and it crushed me(I was young and naive then). The fed government uses taxes to pick the winners and the losers. It is their biggest source of power and influence. If they gave that up they would lose their leverage for lobbyist $$$.

Donald J. Trump paid $750 in federal income taxes the year he won the presidency. In his first year in the White House, he paid another $750.

He had paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years — largely because he reported losing much more money than he made.

Consumption taxes are not significant, and generally fun local government taxes. If you do not pay federal taxes, you should not vote for politicians that determine spending and tax collection.

I’d offer that to a working family, paying 10% more for everything you buy in sales tax is significant.

However, by consuming most any goods and services you are contributing to federal taxes. When you buy a hamburger at McDonalds, part of the cost of that is the money that the business owner pays in payroll and corporate taxes. It’s indirect, but nevertheless its there.

Essentially what you’re arguing for is anti-American. That certain people should have more or less of a say. In practice, they often do thru the ability to “speak” through political contributions.

Why do all you make believe conservatives love to blame the lower class instead of the big gov giving them the tax credits. Punish the people eating the cake, not the baker!!!!!

The last person I listened to about a flat tax said 17% would allow the debt to begin to be paid off. I will gladly pay 17%.

The great part of this is all the illegal money that’s earned (dealing drugs, etc…) now gets taxed to a greater degree when it’s spent.

I also think that everyone should have to serve their country for minimum of 12 months after high-school.

And, I'll add, they're getting EBT cards and buying ALL their groceries at Whole Foods. I see it all the time, especially in BR at Town Center.

We have +35 Trillion in Debt. Need to curb spend across the budget. Need all people who are not net contributors to Fed Income to stop voting. They elect poorly qualified individuals who have given us this debt. Too much political pandering to the dependent class.

2. Abolish 17th Amendment and let the state legislatures pick US Senators

quote:

Please elaborate. I’m not seeing the positive in this, but am open for an explanation.

That’s the way it’s supposed to be done and was prior to the amendment. Senators were to do the States’ business within the Federal government, which is why each state gets 2 irrespective of population.

Now they’re just like House Representatives but with a 6 year term instead of 2, elected via popular vote, which can be affected/influenced by out-of-state money (see CA $$ flowing into TX for “Beto” O’Rourke).

Congress was supposed to represent the People and the actual States (the state governments), and did until they changed it. Why do you suppose that happened?
