21-Year-Old Reveals Himself as Author of Widely Reported Fake Election Polls

A 21-year-old recent college graduate has revealed himself as the person behind a bogus polling operation whose numbers made their way into mainstream news coverage. Rahil Prakash told The Guardian in a report published Thursday that he single-handedly created Median Strategies, an anonymous polling website that published fabricated surveys of races in California, Wisconsin and Nevada. “I wanted to see if fake polls could really penetrate the ecosystem that easily,” Prakash told the outlet. “And as it turned out, it could.”

That's because the radical nut jobs are willing to believe anything OMB, regardless if it makes sense.

Well, he definitely has the pedigree for creating fraud.

If someone were making polls that showed the GOP making huge gains in the midterms you don’t think that would’ve gotten play too?

Nope. Of course not. That wouldn't fit the Democratic media narrative and you know it. Don't be disingenuous.

In the mainstream news media? Is this serious?
Welcome back Rip. Appears you enjoyed yourself a heck of a nap.
You’ll have some catching up to do.

Anyone who paid any attention to 2016 polling for the presidential race knows how wildly flawed polls are. Even exit polling was insanely off.

At best, this reveals that serious journalism is teetering on extinction, if it isn’t extinct.
It’s part of the job to investigate sources. If professionals at multiple MSM outlets aren’t doing that, then they’re just parroting info they grabbed online.

They only ask if it fits the narrative on fake news outlets. The bottom line for them is staying alive by selling commercials which in reality is true of conservative news outlets as well but there are fewer of them and they are in less immediate need.

People will believe anything on the internet.
I can post nonsense on twitter right now under some cool sounding handle, link it here and get a thousand upvotes. We’re a nation of Facebook grannies.

I agree completely that it wouldn’t have been covered by the MSM, I’m talking about the right wing podcast space.

I hope they do the same to this guy if he received funding from NGOs or USAID type mechanisms.
My point is we’ve seen right wing sources run with garbage news on pods before. It’s not hard to get something to takeoff from a narrative standpoint these days if it generates clicks for someone.

No real media outlet referenced the poll. Sniffed it out pretty quick…
Median shut down and retracted its polling earlier this week after a Los Angeles Times reporter began asking questions about the operation. The site subsequently characterized the project to the Times as a “short-term social experiment” testing whether bogus polling “could enter and spread through the political information ecosystem without independent verification.”
Only a few half-witted politicians referenced it.

The only difference between this guy and the usual media polling is the this guy can admit it’s all bullshite.

I would be more interested to see if accurate, real polls could penetrate the MSM / progressive ecosystem.

Yet everyday we are told by the pod bros that the polls are all bad for Trump.
