Neil Armstrong called an audible a couple hundred feet before landing because the "computer" was taking them to a bad spot. and of course because he was an All-American Bad arse he stuck the landing.

Maybe a better example are the airbags we used to land on Mars.

Either way, IRSO needs to get on our level.

All the NASA guys from then retired and took their slide rules with them.

I'm not even joking.

With 17 seconds of fuel to spare before he would've had to abort.

Balls of depleted uranium I tell you.

The whole US space program from it being WVB's love child with the US to Armstrong saying we came in peace for all mankind was something else.

Know what sums it up for me? an american panty and bra company (Playtex) winning the contract to design the spacesuit. Thats how total and encompassing that effort was. America frick Yeah baby!

More rock?

Or is it a super secret nazi base? Or perhaps Lizard People? Maybe a secret American Space Station? The Bilderbergs?

What do you think is under there?

Shelters...
At least that is what NASA and the European Space Agency are proposing...

https://www.vice.com/en_asia/article/bjwzym/europes-space-agency-wants-people-to-live-inside-moon-caves

quote:

Europe's Space Agency Wants People to Live Inside Moon Caves
The agency wants input on how to send robots to the Moon to explore the virtually unseen caves, which could one day shelter humans.
By Becky Ferreira 26 August 2019, 6:00am

quote:

The Moon’s surface is hosting an increasing number of experiments, robots, and most recently tardigrades. The many underground tunnels that lie beneath the Moon’s surface, however, remain virtually unexplored. On Wednesday, the European Space Agency (ESA) put out a call for ideas about how to navigate, map, and study these Moon caves in future robotic missions. The campaign is one of many recent projects focused on the exploration of so-called lunar lava tubes, especially their potential as sites for future Moon bases fit for long-term habitation by humans.

quote:

The caves could “shield astronauts from cosmic radiation and micrometeorites and possibly provide access to icy water and other resources trapped underground,” said Franceso Sauro, director of ESA’s PANGAEA planetary geology astronaut training, in a statement.

Here is the irony...
Someone figured this out about Earth also (prior surface civilizations or “others”). It is indeed very practical to be based inside a planet...

This week our planetary scientists are in Hawaii, exploring lava tubes to better understand similar structures on the Moon and Mars. These caves might contain evidence of ancient life on Mars or serve as shelters on the Moon. China's lunar rover discovers strange substance on far side of the moon
The Yutu-2 rover found something weird inside a crater.

quote:

China's Yutu-2 rover, launched as part of the Chang'e 4 mission, is the first ever robot to explore the far side of the moon. Since landing in January, it's snapped gorgeous views of the lunar surface and made one unexpected discovery. Now, its made another surprising find: hidden in a crater, Yutu-2 has discovered an unusual substance with a "gel-like" appearance.

quote:

Three days into day 8, a member of the Chang'e 4 team was reviewing images taken during by the rover and noticed a strangely colored material, distinct from the gray soil around it. Yutu-2 was scheduled to move on, but the team instead turned their attention toward the substance and sent the rover to the crater for a better look. The Yutu-2 "drive diary" says the team commanded the rover to point its spectrometer, a device which can evaluate the composition of materials, at the unusual substance.

quote:

The team didn't indicate what the substance might be and sadly, haven't shared an image of the weird material. The team did, however, share an image of the rover heading for the crater to have a gander at what's inside.

I mean nations with ICBM tech vs India who only really needs to shoot nukes over the border.

We land and crash shite all over the solar system on the reg. They just decided to cheap out on the actual landing research part of the mission which is less a deal when they can legit moonshot now. Which puts em at the Adults table for ICBMs if they got good miniaturization.

Heard this morning that it did land. They spotted it on imaging from the orbiting vessel.. Just can't make contact.

It does rotate, but the time it takes to rotate equals the time it takes to orbit the earth. Thus, the same side faces earth at all times.

This is what is called being tidally locked. Lots of planets orbiting their stars are tidally locked. only close orbits relative to mass have this occur.

It is not rare or uncommon.

Are we just littering the moon with space junk now???

Over 1/3 of the man-made lunar debris, by mass, is wrecked Saturn IV-Bs. 3rd stage of the Saturn V, and 5 of them are there.

Serious? THat's good news, sortof, if true. Would mean the landing computations and hardware worked decently well.

America landed on Luna six times using slide rules and notepads.

India cannot make a safe, soft landing with billion$$$ in modern computer technology.

And these are the people we call when our iPads and cell phones won’t work right.

The OP of this thread professor...
It has always been there (should be easy to spot )

quote:

However, K Sivan, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization, confirmed Sunday that the lander had been spotted. He told the Times of India that the space agency's Chandrayaan-2 orbiter has spotted Vikram on the lunar service. ISRO is analyzing the data, he said.
