Perfect example of why government should do less and private should do more. Government doesn't care about the money, private does. Government should only guideline the operation, then crackdown on rules breakers. Let private implement operation and watch the money.

They are buying the customer. Don't you think somebody is getting that policy? That's where the big money is going. The free health care doled out to the illegal alien is the bigger cost and fraud and buys votes.

If somehow we could ever discover the true amount of fraud of our federal tax dollars, I don't think folks would believe it. It's STAGGERING! fricking stealing the tax dollars I(you) work for and most contribute zero!

I think a part of the solution is to increase the penalty. Why not the death penalty if you are convicted of defrauding taxpayers from scams such as these? I think it work as a great deterrent in stopping or slowing this.

The way they explained it I understood NOBODY was getting health care. Insurance and agents were collecting the payout from government for the policy that would never be used.

Sure. But that doesn’t automatically translate to the ID being used being tied to an illegal. While I’m sure there are some illegal alien IDs being used for this, I also imagine it isn’t exclusive to illegal aliens as the OP’s thread title asserts.
The issue is with shady insurance scammers - an effort as old as insurance itself - and not illegal aliens

I work in a medical setting and have often been perplexed about a non-English speaking immigrant with no SSN, often with some story of a recent border crossing, having Medicaid. Sometimes I tried to figure it out. A lot were women who get Medicaid while pregnant. It seems immigration status is not a barrier if pregnant (I think related to CHIP and thr idea of covering the American baby) then coverage continues after the pregnancy for apparently a long time. Other times it’s been a total mystery how they get benefits.
It’s an issue that creates strange bedfellows, as hospitals and doctors have to take care of these patients with EMTALA type conditions, and would rather be paid Medicaid rates than nothing at all.
