Would you shoot a 55+ year old gun that is unfired in the box that was your grandfather's?

Unfired ever or just not fired in forever?

Ever.

Except maybe by the factory.

And it's a common production shotgun. Not a special or collectable model.

If in doubt, bring it to a gunsmith for a look-see. Can't cost that much.

Gunsmith will fire gun for you after evaluating it’s safe

It was made in the late 60s to early 70s?

It’s fine if you want to shoot it.

I wouldn’t however.

Are you asking from a safety perspective? I routinely hunt with several different rifles and shotguns that are 50 plus years old.
If from a resale value not firing it and keeping it pristine will add value but if it was me the value of pawpaws gun is irrelevant cus it wouldn’t ever be for sale and I would take it hunting every chance I had.

I don’t think that model is particularly collectible. No problem shooting it IMO.

That makes sense.

Since I don't intend to sell that slight value increase really doesn't matter.

Shoot it. I suspect he'd be proud you did.

Greatest gift my paw paw ever gave me was telling me which of his guns he thought were pieces of shite and never should have bought, and the only reason he still had them was because he didn’t want to deal with tire kickers. Not every gun your paw paw had was some cherished heirloom.
