For Christ's sake, we're sitting on a giant rock hurtling through space. Nothing will last forever. Cars are made to be driven and guns are made to be shot. Enjoy them.

I think my answer would depend on why he never shot it. If it's because he wanted to but just never got around to it, then sure.

if it was me the value of pawpaws gun is irrelevant cus it wouldn’t ever be for sale and I would take it hunting every chance I had.

Same I hunt with my grandpas deer rifle from time to time just for the sentimental value and the thought of bringing a part of him into the woods with me. My son squirrel hunts with my great grandmothers double barrel Stevens 12 ga.

Yes. Do you think unstressed steel weakens over time?

It does not.

My Uncle had a pair of Sweet 16s that are now at least 75 years old. One had been used and wiped down so much the bluing was gone, man was instant death to anything on the wing with that chromed out looking gun. The other one had never been cleaned or shot, it was still coated with cosmoline. I wonder which one of his grandkids ended up with those.

Maybe oil it run a snake through it.

I shot my grandfather’s Ithaca 16 side by side double trigger without a thought.
Used low pressure shells shot a woodcock.

That gun is close to 100 years old

I still hunt with my grandfather’s Remington Model 11. It is 96 years old. Hunt only dove with it.
